Hillbilly
What do you usually go after?? Both?? Geese??? Ducks?? If ducks?? Then whats your most sought after breed of duck. Mine will be mallards and woodies.
huntn4bucks
Of the two...I would probably consider myself more of a duck hunter than a goose hunter. The only time I specifically go after geese is during the early season which only lasts about 2 weeks. Now don't get me wrong...I've whacked a few geese during the regular waterfowl season but mainly I go after ducks. The area I hunt holds a tremendous amount of gadwalls so we shoot a lot of those. During the last few years the diver hunting has been great. We've had good opportunities to take canvasbacks, ringnecks, and blue bills/scaup. Occassionally we'll shoot a few mallards, widgeons, black ducks, and pintails. Oh yeah, the wood duck hunting is always good around here too. We typically shoot a mixed bag every year. 98chevy
Im a duck hunter but love goose hunting also. We just have more ducks which isnt saying much. We try for mallerds allways but shoot ringnecks gadwalls and hoodermeganzers. We also finish the day with getting or daily bag limit on woodeies if possible
camoman1
Used to hunt geese a lot more than i do now. I dont really target just geese anymore. I buy a license and throw out some goose blocks while in the duck boat, just in case. I hunt divers almost exclusively. only exception is opening weekend and maybe the one after (opens sep 22), only because there arent any divers down yet. We get a good mix of bills, redheads, golden eyes, some cans and lots of buffs. Throw in a few teal, a flock of old squaws and the occasion scooter, thats the season in a nutshell. Them teal really love them goose decoys
dogdoc
geese are more of a bonus bird for me. I just don't see a lot of geese where I hunt but occasionally have a few fly by so I always set out a few floaters with a few shells on the shore by them. drkillemquick
I hunt mostly geese! However I will set opening morning and a couple mornings to ducks. Mostly shoot mallards here, with the odd woodie! Would love to get out and do some late season duck hunting on Lake Ontario and get after some different types of ducks this year! rbduck
Well, I never thought I`d say this but in the last few years my buds and I have been getting real tired of shooting geese. Where we live there are just more geese than ducks. Hopefully this year we can get into few good duck hunts. Ron

longhorn57
It's about 50/50. If I have a good number of geese landing in one of my field I will forget about the ducks for that day. We shoot mallards, gadwall, widgen, and ringnecks.
Leo
Ducks for sure. Geese are targets of opportunity but I'm mostly gunning for ducks. Gadwalls, Mallards and Teal. In that order. I just love eating those little gray ducks

Dakota
Never shot ducks, though I really would love to and am a member of DU. I've shot geese and love the taste. My biggest goose was a 15lb. canadian gander, he slowly came out of the fog surrounding the lake with 13 other giant canadians. At 19' up and 30yrds. away, the gander fell to the 3" BBBs from my singleshot 12 ga. We tend to have more geese than ducks in my area of SD. Palssonater
I am definetly a duck hunter. I am blessed with the opportunity to hunt both easily, but there is something about the whistling wings shooting by just before legal shooting time that gets me going. Geese are special too. I love the sound they make when they lift from the lake, or late at night when you can see groups of them blocking out the full moon on migration. They were sure moving here last night. I was outside with my labs for about 20mins watching a mixture of snows and canadas fly by at night. Very cool sight. And my oldest dog could barely stand it. He was just shaking standing there. MossySNPR
Opportunities for both geese and duck are plentiful here in Ontario but man I gotta say.....as long as I live, bring on the honkers!!! Mozz
