wildthing
I was wondering how many bowhunters out there practice shooting at targets, of various distances, from a treestand (ladder or hanging) prior to or during the season? rad_112176
I do probably 90% of my practice from the ground. I do get into my treestand before bow season and start some practice from there. I live in a subdevision so it makes it a little harder to practice from the roof top. LOL. hutchies
I normally practice 95% from the ground and 5% from tree. I aim about an inch lower from the stand than I do from the ground.
Guest totalscaf
i the summer most of my practice is done from the ground, but when august rolls around i do most of my shooting either from my 12' deck or a ladder stand. MUDRUNNER
Most of my shooting is off the ground, but after I hang my stands I bring my target out and set it up in the spots where I think they are going to travel and take a few shots. bowin_in_illinois
most of my early practice is on the ground. When I know my bow is "dialed" I move up to the tree stand and practice most of the time from there. Here is my setup:
wtnhunt
Been shooting both elevated and standing postions for years during practice sessions. Currently our setup for elevated is from the roof of our shed.
Dogg6
Mostly from the ground until amonth or so before season. Also depends if I am shooting at my house or at my Dad's. I don't have many trees around my house right now and I don't think the neighbors would like me shooting from the roof.
VermontHunter
I practice shooting from the ground, ladder stand, and ground blind, every shooting session.. ;) Yeah, I'm obsessive with my practice time... I even practice kneeling and sitting from yardages 20-45 yrds.. by the time I get done shooting I've usually shot about 75-100 arrows a night.. wildthing
I bought a ladder stand this past weekend and put it up in a tree in my yard to practice shooting out of. I am on the mend from a dislocated shoulder so with the help of my brother, we got it up and secured. I haven't gotten to shoot out of it yet, but my brother has and he is dialed in... hopefully the effort will pay off this season again. Turkeygirl
Ummm I basically practice from the ground. Doing it from the stand would be good but never do. I'm usually all set when I hit the stand though.
maddhunter
The first year I bow hunted I missed the same dear 5 times in one week because I hadn't shot it from a tree stand prior to hunting. The bow I was using was very slow and the elevated position caused my arrow to fly much flatter resulting in shooting over the deer's back. Ever since then I have practiced shooting from an elevated position. My son and I have been shooting out of a tree stand for the last month or so. It also give you a little time to adjust to drawing your bow from a not so stable standing position. I think it has helped my son the most becuase he hadn't ever drawn his bow from a stand and the first few times were a little shakey. Remember always wear a safety harness even when practiceing !!!!!!!!!!!!!
mule659
I do a lot of mine from a stand or the rooftop of my buddies house where all my targets are.
bwlacy
In the summer I practice from the ground. Once September starts I shoot mostly from a 16' ladder stand. I have 3 deer targets that I move around so that I can practice different yardages and shot angles. I also shoot spots on the bag.
woodsman2230
If you are planning on hunting from a treestand there is no better way to practice IMO. I usually go into the woods behind my house a little ways, set targets out at various distances and shoot. Practicing in the woods seems to help me guage distance better when I am hunting. Sometimes the trees will make judging distance difficult. Best of luck this season.
toddyboman
Shoot from the ground and off the deck. Usually have 2 or 3 targets setup at different yardages.
Tecumseh
I practice 90% of the time on the ground and practice a couple of times from a stand just before the season opens.
BearClaw
I shoot 90% from the ground during ths spring and part of the summer. Then I do pretty exclusively shoot from a ladderstand I have in the backyard and shoot at my Delta Backyard Buck Legend 3D target. Our season opens here in Maryland on the 15th so I've been doing a few shots with broadheads as well. My 90gr Muzzy broadheads hit the same place as my fieldtips with my setup. I'm ready and waiting (and practicing!!).
Tony
80% of my shooting practice is from the ground. but i still get into a tree to just make sure im bending at the waist to keep my shooting form the same. this is extremely necessary to practice. also its not a bad idea to just practice sitting in a stand and using the safety straps and harnesses. Shoot Strong Tony
Rhino
At home it's all from ground level. At our camp it's all from and elevated position and I'm there just about every weekend between Aug. 1st and Oct. 1st. We shoot off the back deck at our camp at 3D and bag targets. Off our back deck it falls off into a wooded creek bottom. The deck puts us about 15' above the 20 yard target, about 18' above the 25, and a little over 20' above the 30.
