billkay
Anyone have one of these? Think I may be getting one but was looking for some imput before parting with the cash. Thanks.
unioncountyslayer
I'm definitely a Honda Lover, but if it were up to me, I would go with the Rubicon instead. Yeah, it has a smaller engine, but it has bigger/wider racks for hunting gear/animals and it has a low/high gear with an excellent engine break that isn't offered in the Rincon. preacherman
Would agree with Mark on this one! I like the Rubicon better than the Rincon. The only thing that the Rincon has that the Rubicon doesn't is Indepedent Rear Suspension. The Rincon has a little more power; but I wouldn't pay the extra money for it. wtnhunt
They are nice bikes Bill. We looked at them. They are a little bigger than I need though. Personally I kind of like being able to put a bike in the back of the truck if I have to with the gate closed, and the 450 is about the biggest bike that will fit. Palssonater
The Rincon's don't have a low range either. So if you are dragging a couple of dear around or just doing yard work, they lack the power on the low end. Any big mud riding is out of the question as well. The Rubicon is a great machine I love mine. It has more low end grunt then the Rincon, but does lack in the overall horsepower. I am not a power rider, so as long as I can turn my outlaws in the slop I am happy. It uses the Hondamatic transmission which is nice as you have manual, automatic option. However there are 5L of oil to change as it is basically a hydrostatic drive. The Foreman 450ES is another great option. Its first gear has good low end grunt and it will just about match the Rubicon for speed. It has the old reliable transmission but is thumb shifted via gear buttons. I was actually going to say the same thing. I have the 500 Foreman ES 4x4 and love it. The ES, to me, is just like having an automatic transmission and my wife loves it as well. Don't know if that is a plus or not; but it keeps the family happy!
Guest Finn
I'd recommend checking the Rubicon. My Dad and Uncle both have one and they are great machines.
billkay
Looked at the 500 Rubicons today. They are carburated rather than EFI. Is that any big deal? The local dealer has a new 2006 Rubicon with the GPS Scape, and a 3 year, full warranty, including ALL Maint. He wants 8k. What do you think? Palssonater
Everything has Pros and Cons. Carbs are tried tested and true. They work and are easy to troubleshoot. However carbs are dependent on Jetting for fuel mixture. If you decide to modify your quad and change the exhaust or intake anyway, you'll be looking at re-jetting. Also, jets do affect performance where altitude changes are present. I am at sea level(or just about) and couldn't just take my bike to the rocky mountains. Quads with carbs usually have a pull start too! EFI is great. Cold weather starting, no need for a choke, and runs like a top no matter what elevation you run at. However there is no recoil starter on all EFI quads to date(from my knowlege) and if you are out and about and your battery dies, you better hope you have a way of changing or boosting the battery. ATV prices vary greatly between Canada ad the US. I bought mine in Canada for under 10k. I would say 8k sounds a little high for a machine that is essentially a year old already, even though the only thing they changed from 06 to 07 was the tail light(I think). billkay
The price is actually $7000. The $1000 extra was for the 3 year warranty and all maintenance for 3 years. That includes oil changes, brakes, etc. I thought that was a pretty good deal. I know an oil chance on my current Honda is about $50 alone. Guest APEX127
You get what a pay for and and your looking at quality, we have 2 at our bowhunting ranch and they have been a couple of work horses......
preacherman
If that is an out the door price, that is not a bad deal. For a 2006 here in Mississippi, they are $6,000 plus tax, if you can find a 2006, without the GPS on them.
wtnhunt
Bill, if price shopping, might look at abernathy's. Here is a link for you on the new 2007 models http://www.abernathycycles.com/new_vehicle_detail.asp?sid=05955774X9K6K2007J4I10I26JPMQ1205R0&veh=38100&CatDesc=ATVs . Their price is $6400 out the door. Think when we bought our 450 foreman from them the 3 year warranty like you mentioned at the dealer right then as an add on was offered for like $300. mjbmxz
They're right, go with the rubicon. but if ya like to shift, get the Foreman S. The foreman S also has a handbar mounted headlight on it, the Rincon doesn't. They may not be as fast or have the greatest suspension as other machines. But they run forever.
