I'm not big on stats, but those are ugly anyway you slice 'em. I'll give Young's supporters the fact that he showed he can win games, but lets not forget Travis Henry was a cornerstone of that offense last year and no doubt he had a lot to do with the run they went on at the end of the season. And now he's gone.:o

I'm just not seeing where the hype is coming from? btw- Chuck Frizzle's QB rating was 72, that should tell you all you need to know boys.;)

u guys have no idea look at his junior year at texas he threw for over 3000 yds and had a rating of 162. he runs yes but his arm is deadly just wait till he gets some key players around him.

What does his college career matter? Just because a guy was good in college doesn't mean he'll be good in the NFL. There's hundreds of examples to support that, especially when you're talking about QB's.

Vince Young is a "new generation quarterback". Whether you like it or not, football is making a strong turn to this kind of play. Just watch a college game. Pocket passers are still primarily the stye of qb play in the NFL, but given a few years and they will be on the verge of extinction.

Sorry to change the subject on this thread, but that's kinda what it comes down to in my opinion.

all the doubters.... i agree with rhine on some pats but there is still colt brennin, john david booty, and colt mccoy just a few examples. but look at white in West Virginia, dangerous arm and runs like the wind, Tim Tebow out of florida runner yet still has pocket presence. so many guys coming out of college the peyton mannings r fading though

What!? College has always been more suited for running style QB's...heck, since the days of Rockne and the 4 horsemen which was eons ago, running QB's were a staple and none of them have ever translated into good Pro QB's outside of maybe Fran Tarkenton (wikipedia the name). The wishbone offense was built around the QB's ability to run, matter of fact, in it's founding days (pre 20th century even) a football team's best runner was usually your QB...they didn't even have the forward pass then.;)

Fact is, there's defensive lineman in the NFL that can match Young's speed, sure he'll get lose every down and then but you need to be able to throw the ball consistently if you want to win, he won't be able to do that. Mike Vike was most definitely the most prolific scrambling QB the NFL had ever seen...he went 7-9 last year and never won anything.

Now, lets think about your other point, the extintion of the pocket-passer.:o Lets think about last year's Conference Finals. Brees, Grossman, Brady, and Peyton. Brees, Brady, and Peyton are probably 3 of the top 4 QB's in the league, all of whom are pocket passers. The other guy is Carson Palmer...pocket passer. Add other top QB's, McNabb, Bulger...pocket passers although McNabb and Brees will rollout a bit.

With the speed and rushing ability NFL defenders have, games our won on 3-step drops and guys who step up into the pocket, it's gonna stay that way too as defenders will only get faster.

btw- Pat White will have to move to WR our RB if he wants to play in the NFL, that's a fact. Anyway, the first QB taken next year will be Brian Brohm...pocket passer.

Trust me, I want it to stay as a pocket passing game. I'm just throwing my opinion out there as are you. What i see is that the pocket passers are diminishing. I think that instead of 1/3 of NFL qb's being runners now, that in 5 years 2/3 will be. I hope not, because that is not the way i like to see the game played, but that is what i think will happen.

BTW- I was set to be my high school's quarterback as a pocket passer for my junior and senior seasons, a running type qb transferred in and took the job when i got hurt. I gave it up after i went through a year of sitting on the sidelines. Just letting you know why i feel this way. :)

Vince Young will lead his team to the playoffs this year, but only a Wildcard. Young is good enough to get by, but I don't think he's much more. I like the guy, but running QB's usually can't take the team down the field in under two minutes when it's needed most.

Take care,

Nathan

Kordell Stewart, a bust

Akili Smith, out of the league.

Arnaz Battle, plays wideout for the 49ers

Marcus Robinson, plays runningback for the 49ers

Antwaan Randle El, plays wideout for the Skins

Anquan Boldin, plays wideout for the Cards

Joshua Cribbs, plays wideout for the Browns

Troy Smith, thrid on the Ravens chart- probably out of the league in 3 years

Vince Young, lowest completion percentage of any starter

Mike Vick, 2nd lowest completion percentage of any starter

Oh yes...the wave of the future is upon us all.:o;):D

You can't disregard the 550 some yards and 7 TD's rushing though too. He can make plays on his feet, not like Vick, but he is a hard guy to bring down.

One thing Young has done that none of the other guys you mentioned is win a national championship....and he won it by himself...against a team that people were calling the best college team ever.....and a team that had a pocket passer.;)

I think it's to early to rule Young out. Give him a year or two and see what happens. I'm still not sold on his passing capabilities either, but you can't just throw the guy under the bus after one rookie season.

Alot of people around the NFL think he is going take it to a whole other level this year, I don't really see it but, alot of guys on TV think so.

Oh, but you can call him the future of pro quarterbacking, put him on the cover of Madden, and over-hype the life out of him? I fail to see your logic.;):D

Some more of your flawed logic is bringing in his college resume' into the conversation. When has that ever mattered? Troy Smith won the Heismann, so he'll win the NFL MVP then too, right?:o

Actually, the Titans had a win, not Vince, I didn't see him playing in the defensive secondary or on the Dline.;)

Chris Brown's 180+ rushing yards might have helped ole Vince out just a little bit too, don't ya think?

You get almost 200 rushing yards from one back, you're not gonna lose too often. Still though, Young almost lost that game...and that INT he threw was UGLY.:o
