I can't wait!!! Tomorrow is Opening day here in NC! I have my eye on a nice 8 or 9 pointer. The pictures I have of him don't show for sure. I will post the pictures later... I'm at work at the moment and they are on my home computer.

Good Luck to all this season... And please above all else, BE SAFE!!

Shot an 8 point in full velvet tonight. He ran about 45 yards.

I was really excited for the deer season, now for me I am done. One deer fills my freezer and I don't need more then one trophy a year.

I was so anxious I couldn't pull my bow back. So, on the third try I took a breath and drew it back. Anchor points and let one fly. Quartering away. I shot him from a ground blind, so there wasn't much blood to follow.

I'm pumped.

What, no pics? :( All I saw was one doe the whole day. I'm sure ready for these 90 degree days to go away!

Well..... Short story short... I didn't see a thing!!! My brother caught a glimps of one running by him about 50 to 60 yards out, but he nothing else. Oh well.... There is always tomorrow afternoon once I get home from work! :)

Congrats Kingfisherfd2 on the 8 pointer!! I have always wanted to get one in full velvet, but never had the chance! Nor have I taken one on opening day. I had a chance to the very 1st year I started bow hunting. I didn't have my finger behind the trigger of my release and it released the arrow while I was drawing it back. I still kick myself this day for that simple mistake.

I'll be sure to post it if I get one!

Good Luck to All!!!

Well I posted it in the Hunter's Success thread, But since this is kind of a North Carolina thread.I thought he was a big 6, He turned out to be an 8 if you count the little nub on the left side. I skinned it out and found out the shot I thought wasn't too good was better then I realized. Only the deer was quartering away from me more then I thought. So I looked at taxidermy forms online today to try and get an idea of what position to get him mounted. I think I might get right full sneak shoulder mount. I'm pumped. This is my first NC deer.Phil

Thanks everyone. I finally got it all taken care of yesterday.

I skinned it out on sunday and took the meat to Swaim's for processing. 50.00 to process it. Seems cheap compared to Michigan. But I did the skinning and that is hard work.

Then took the head and skin to the Taxidermist. I ordered it in right turned full sneak, with its ears back. Saw my buddies from last season. It is done and is full sneak left ears back. I had looked at some mounts online and decided before I went what I wanted.

So now I might have to just wait until later in the season and go back out. Not sure if I want to be done hunting quite yet, but I know I don't want to sweat so much next time I go.
