Squirrelhunter91
still think he's a shooter? Without a doubt!!!
wtnhunt
Here on my place, I just dont think I could let a deer like that walk. Looking at the body size, he is probably at least 3.5, possibly a 4.5 year old deer.
hoosierhunter
Yeah he looks to be a old boy. I would shoot him based on body size as he looks to be at least 4.5 to me.
beagleboy
I'd have a hard time letting him walk by.
Ravin R10 man
Id pass..tines are short, and so is his nose..this usually indicates a young deer, Id give him at least one more year
nemodeerhuntersneighbor
I agree with a couple of you. I think this deer is a 4 yr old maybe older. And he would be tough to pass but that is the difference in killing nice deer and big deer. You can't kill a big one if you kill a nice one. I'm trying to make that next step. Oneida man, I think a blocky face with a short nose is the sign of a mature buck not an immature one. If you look at the smaller buck in the one picture his nose appears much longer. That is b/c he is a 2 yr old and his face (and the rest of his body) hasn't filled out. Agree?

The bigger deer is without any doubt older than the smaller one, and can see where the nose appears narrower, not necessarily longer, on the younger deer and more blocky on the older more mature deer. Guest bowhuntr_15
I would be takin him if he walked by me!
toddyboman
I would agree he is an older deer. BUt seeing the pics of deer you have already posted and knowing what else is around you I might have to pass. Now after gun season and you still have 2 tags in your pocket, then I would let him have it. But before the rut kicks in and gun season I would probably pass. I hopes for something bigger. Goodluck either way.
Washi
Looks fairly mature to me. I'm gonna say shooter. I just don't see him getting huge if you let him walk. Either way you go he is a nice buck.
Ravin R10 man
No way!! a short nose is a younger deer...a long ROMAN nose is a mature deer..our young bucks here always are short in the muzzel and when they mature the nose gets longer and start to show gray..also the measurement from eye to nose typically increases as they get older..look at the big mature bucks heads..they look like a horse head
dosse
What a body, if he was here in MS he would be an elder but it all depends on weights in your area. I would personally believe wherever he is that he is a big mature deer

I'm pretty sure they are. As far as the deer, he looks to be mature. Definitely a shooter for me with a bow. Would depend on situation with rifle, but i dont think he's gonna get much bigger. nemodeerhuntersneighbor
The actual nose is not shorter on mature deer. They just look that way due to the blocky appearance of a more mature deers face. It is more filled out and the nose is fatter which makes the nose appear shorter. If you look at pictures of does they "appear" to have the longest noses of any deer because they are much skinnier. That is my opinion. Oneida man and I will have to agree to disagree. peteski
Look at the difference in neck size compared to the younger buck...
buckee
I'd say he's an older deer too. His nose only looks shorter because his head is built like a block His whole body is built like an older deer, neck and all. I'd say 4 1/2 at least:p:) I'd say he's an excellent buck to take now, unless you have another one in mind Send his teeth away to get aged. I got $50 says he's at least 4 1/2 (wagers ?? )
Tom2008
He could maybe take one more year that is for sure or you could take him this year. He is definatley older than 3 1/2. The chest juts out, back has a slight sway in it, and his facial look makes him look a little older too. He definatley a mature deer. Abear
I would take him most definetly with my boy but with my gun I would debate it, but most likely i might shoot him.

c_lou
With some of the deer you guys have showed off, I would let him walk for a while. Now if it was late season and I got tags left, then he is just too nice to let walk. Of course he would be even better next year.
bonehuntr
I would let him go so he can grow.
