WaCoyote
Whoops. I went to see all of the ranchers to get permission for the upcoming season and actually ran over one of the rancher's dogs. In his driveway!!! I was pulling up to the house and here comes the pack! He now has 8 or 9 and they're all just about the nastiest inbreds you've ever seen. They proceed to swarm the truck and I'm going really slow so I don't hit one. I guess the one must have bit the back tire or something cause the truck felt like I ran over a rock with the rear tire. But then a dog just starts screaming bloody murder. I look in the rear view mirror and one of the dogs is having a seizure and howling. It then stops and walks up to the porch. At this time I still cant really figure out whats going on until I get a good look at the dog. One eye is close and one side of his head is flat and deformed. It looks like his jaw may be broken but he won't let me get near he just backs off. I told the landowner how sorry I am but he really didn't seem to care to much. He just carried on with his stories I've been hearing for the last 30 years and said not to worry about it. I cannot believe I actually ran over a dogs head with a full size Ford pickup and it actually lived!!! I also cannot believe I ran over a dog in it's own driveway, or that the guy still gave me permission to hunt this fall.
stevebeilgard
the rancher obviously knew how stupid his dogs were, and had no problem with what happened. you might go back and actually offer to shoot the dog for the rancher. if it's jaw is broken, it will now starve to death. just a thought. WaCoyote
He'll take care of it. He's got another with a broke leg that hops around. I suspect the same thing happened to it.

WaCoyote
Thats a GREAT idea. Every year these dogs swarm you when you pull up. Little turds jump all over the rig and everything. This time one of them jumped up almost into my lap and started licking me when I opened the door. A few years back they scratched up my friends brand new Grand Cherokee. I like the guy who owns them but sure hate those dogs. They don't last long though I think the coyotes take care of them by the time they get 3-4 years old. They just keep having more and more pups though. They're starting to look really shabby. He used to have one that would follow us out hunting. We had to throw dirt clods at it to get it away. We think the yotes got him. They just tend to disappear. Wouldnt be surprised if hunters shoot them.
buckee
Man, that's some story. Reminds me of the time I went to visit a friend, and their Australian cattle dog, bit a hole through my brand new tire as I was creeping in the driveway, trying not to run over it. He got lucky though, and I got a flat tire. Sure glad you still got permission after all of that. Poor dog:(
Guest Andrea
Next time don't drive slowly. That's where you mess up. Dogs get confused because you're going so slow and they think they are safe and they tend to get excited and not pay attention. But if you maintain a higher speed they know to get out of the way. And I don't mean driving 55 up the man's driveway....but hey, if he doesn't really care.... I guess you could take out the whole pack and be done with it. wtnhunt
He now has 8 or 9 and they're all just about the nastiest inbreds you've ever seen. That statement right there probably answers any questions you may have had. I also cannot believe I ran over a dog in it's own driveway, Inbred dogs are not known to be very bright. or that the guy still gave me permission to hunt this fall. Given they are inbreds, maybe he does not want them in the first place. Kind of along this topic, we have a pack of mutts from neighbors just up the road. These are inbreds here that I have gotten pics of on our cams right behind deer, they do hunt and will kill deer.
