Turkeygirl
So what vest or harness do you all use while hunting? I'm thinking about a new harness or vest this year. Before I have used the typical strap kind that comes with stands. It just goes over the shoulders and around my chest but it is uncomfortable, a pain to put on, and I feel like it gets in the way of my shooting. I can't even turn around and look behind me without the strap being too short. I want something easy to put on, comfortable, and not too heavy and I can actually move around in my stand. There's a guy offering a brand new HSS Bowhunter vest for $70 shipped on AT that I'm thinking about. Seems like alot to spend being in school...but it is safety. What do you guys recommend or use? Tominator
I have the Ameristep full body harness. Big, clunky, noisy, difficult to don every morning, and I wear it all the time.
BearClaw
I use the HSS Bowhunting Vest and I love it! It's comfortable, easy to put on and you can get a Lineman's Belt to go with it to hang stands and they also have a Lifetime that you can attach ans once you leave the ground you are never un-attached to the tree. Yes, they do run a little money but in the area of safety it's worth it if you can do it. I think the Linemans' Belt runs around 30 and the Lifeline around $40.00. Hoyt03
I have always been one who didn't want to spend the cash a high dollar harness and just used the cheapies I got free with stands and stuff. That being said I recently purchased a summit seat of the pants harness for 79.99 at bps and I'm glad I did. I also recommend the linemans belt for help in hanging climbing sticks, stands and climbing up the tree. I know it stinks paying high dollar for something like a harness, but in the long run it is defintely worth it, it's something you use everyday in the stand. I would recommend the seat of the pants (can be worn under the clothes and gives you plenty of freedom to look around and shoot diff spots around you)or seat of the pants fast back, and also some of the vest systems like you mentioned. The seat of the pants come with a pouch that you fold parts of the harness in and it makes it so much easier to put on.
LifeNRA
HSS vest. Four buckles, its on before I climb. I wear it in so I don't need to putz around with it once I get to my tree.
RangerClay
I have a Hunter Safety System. Tree Stalker Model. VERY comfortable and affordable. Bass Pro Shops in Auburn has them on sale this week for $59.88. A very good deal.
tedicast
Here's another vote for the Summitt seat of the Pants. Great harness. I have one of the older styles that is a pain to get into, but after doing it a few times each year, it becomes second nature.
medicsnoke
If i had it to do over again ide buy a cheap hunting vest from Waly World and sew a hunting saftey harness that you get with any tree stand into that, it the same as a HSS vest and 90 dollars cheaper. AdvantageTimberLou
No price on safety, like we tell guys in racing, got a $10.00 head, buy a $10.00 helmet! I got the HSS Pro Series. Expensive yes but I only get one life to hunt with and I want to be safe and I like how this thing fits. Almost like not having it on, feels that good and that comfortable. Better act quick on that one over at AT Ruth or it will be sold. That is a fair price for one with shipping. They cost around $8 to $10.00 just to ship. Not really, the HSS using seat belt style buckles for the legs, have not seen many that come with treestands that do that. Guys will spend close to $1000 on a bow and load up accessories that are top notch but look for short cuts with safety. Safety should be your number one goal. No deer is worth being paralyzed or dying over.

No deer is worth being paralyzed or dying over. Here, here Lou. Great advice. Why people risk safety is beyond me. 'Course, I think I've been closer to death than the average bear, so maybe that has some bearing on the issue.
woodsman2230
If I use a harness, I use the one that came with my Summit stand. Its a pretty nice harness. Seems pretty sturdy.
M00N
Ruth, I use the HSS Pro Series Vest Harness. I love the vest harnesses made by HSS and highly recommend them. They are highly adjustable, easy to put on, and very comfortable to wear. Safety is always top priority here and in my opinion these are one of the safest harnesses I've worn and well worth the money.

DSGB
I have one of the Gorilla Full Body Harness vests that I'm using this year. It is a little heavy, but I like how the straps go around your thighs instead of your crotch. It's easy to use and comes with a lineman's belt and another strap to use with climbers. medicsnoke
Me and my 6 post are going to brag for a second then I will explain my point again. Im a firefighter for a small city. Im certified in high angle rope rescue and have a "little" time spent in a safety harness and hanging on a piece of rope. Tree stand safety harnesses are just that a safety measure.IMO used for more of a extra leg or anchor point to help keep your balance. Thats what they are good for. I hate to tell you but if you blindly fall out of your tree stand wearing any harness its gonna hurt, a lot! And if it happens to me, after the fall i wanna be able to get out of my harness, and back on a tree step or back in the stand, and the least number of buckles or straps, the better. So the harness that came with my API shooting star 10 years ago, or the nice harness that came with my Lone Wolf will do just fine. Im not sure how using these harnesses are "skimping" on my safety, im sure its what most people use today and for the last tree stand era. Also, IMO HSS vest are heavy, and if i sewed my Lone Wolf full body harness into a Wally Wold or Primos bow vest it would be a lot lighter, just as safe, more functional and save $90. But just my .02 worth Also ide like to add that with any harness, it all about wearing it and anchoring it to the tree the high way, most people i see use a harness, use it wrong. bowhtr1
I use the HSS pro series. This is a light harness and very easy to get into. I dont want to be fumbling with straps trying to figure out what goes where in the dark. Also I forget I have mine on. I find myself jumping in my truck and I still have it on. There are several good makes out there now. The best advice would be to go to a large hunting store and see if they will let you try on a few to see what feels good. All of them can save your life if you wear them. You cant go wrong with the HSS, Summit, Gorilla harness. Sorry if i missed your favorite but I think these are the best and in that order. My 2 cent. You got a great deal from the sound of it Ruth. Congratulations and lets hope you don't ever have to test the harness out while up in the tree.
