Are the geese swarming all over your area or is it just a few resident birds? If the migration is in full swing I'd recommend pass shooting. Find a field that the birds are congregating in that is right off of a public right-of-way. Get off the road and stay low in the ditch, as the birds are either leaving or coming they will more than likely pass right above you. Make sure you have a backup shotgun in your truck and I'd say use 3 in. magnum BBB with a moderate-xfull choke. All in all, this particular setup works well for me for both snows and giant canadians. A good canada goose flute doesn't hurt either. Just wondering, what's your waterfowl gun? Good luck!

I would say try to find someone to take you out or wait until you have some decoys to hunt them. Pass shooting only makes it harder for everyone else. I got a place to hunt by a couple sand pits and a river were in the winter there can be a ton of geese in the area. But some people by there makes it hard to hunt them. Their are to lazy to sit up decoys rather sit on 5gal buckets by hay bales in the field pass shooting. They hardly ever Knock anything down. You can wacth the geese come off the river real low when they get close to the fields they go straight up way out shotgun range fly like that for a couple miles before the find a field to feed in. Which is past were I can hunt. I only hunt out there once in a great while because all you do is watch the birds fly by and the pass shooters unload their guns. Sorry just had to vent about skybusting

Nothing against you, I understand your venting. But in defense of the pass shooters, have you ever thought of their reasons? "Skybusting" maybe their only option. They could be poor high school or college students that don't have the money or even the option to buy dekes and blinds to set up in the field. Pass shooting maybe the only way for them to get a Christmas goose. That is exactly my predicament. While some maybe road hunting for pheasants and suddenly drive under a passing flock, others might just have a different story. Again, I understand where you're coming from. :)

There is a huge difference between pass shooting and skybusting. Pass shooting, in my eyes is perfectly acceptable, i myself have done it before. But shooting at every goose, duck, whatever, that flies by whether they are in range or not seems a little bit unethical if u ask me. If a person doesnt have decoys, i doubt they have a dog.... what if u wound a bird and it falls into heavy cover, or in water..what then?? Just my thoughts.

I realize my version of skybusting may be different than others too. By me there are way too many "one shot willies" and it gets old after a while. More times than not they foil a hunt for guys who spent the time to train a dog, scout a spot, put out decoys, get good on a goose call etc. They are as welcome to those birds as the next guy....but it just gets annoying after a while

I agree last year we where busted more then once from guys setting up in the mouth of slew shooting at everything that flew by. Or they would call nonstop and make noises that no duck has ever made.

Now im all for learning how to hunt everything, but be considrable
