Guest MrBuckshot
ok my birthday is this week and i want a new shotgun for deer and target, im looking at a benelli supernova with smooth 26-28 inch barrel or a mossberg 500 with a field barrel and rifled barrel(and possibly anything else for couple hundred bucks) i just dont know which would be better
kuntryboy
I have the mossburg, it kicks like a mule and you need ear plugs to shoot it, BUT it has ben a verry reliable gun ! It has ben through mud and rain heat ,cold ,bounced arround on fourweelers and in the back of trucks and has never given me a lick of problems . I've killed everything fron doves to deer with it ! the benelli on the other hand is a very smoth shooting gun but a couple of the guys i hunt with have them and keep them super clean and had a lot of problems with them. they can be selective about the shells they will shoot . they have had to send the guns back to the factory a couple of times to get worked on! WaCoyote
I have to respectfully disagree. A mossy 500 is way at the low end of the quality spectrum. On this and other sites you can find story after story about this Mossy breaking or that Mossy breaking. I will never buy one. The Benelli Supernova is not even close in comparison it is clearly the right choice. That said I wouldn't buy either. It'd be a Remington 870 Wingmaster, or a Browning BPS for me. I have several of each and the newest is about 12-13 years old never had a problem with any of them.
Tecumseh
I have a Mossberg and have never had a bit of trouble with it and it takes a lot of abuse through the hunting season.

I don't like the Mossbergs as much as the Nova. Mossy's are just clubby and clunky. I'd get me into a Remington 870 for about the same money and I'd have something.
