Swamphunter
My Grandma has been hospitalized for a few days now and I received a call today from my Dad that I had better come see her right away as they were shipping her to Burlington VT. She has been a lifelong smoker and can hardly breathe. She is showing signs of congestive heart failure, they found a mass in her stomach, and her kidney function is failing. I am probably heading for Burlington tomorrow as there is a test happening tomorrow that is real iffy. What hurts me guys is that I found out on Saturday that she was there, and not up to company..I waited another day and wanted to go up, but the day kinda slipped away from me, and I had been told that all she was doing was sleeping anyways. (We were told by her husband (step grandad), thats she was just run down and was recuperating, and she was not up for company. I was going to bring the kids up because I knew she was getting quite elderly and wanted her to see them. My step Grandad called and said she just wanted to rest so we never made it a point to go up. I stopped up myself on Monday, saw her for 5 or 10 minutes, as I did not want to tire her out, and I left. I had told her that I would be thinking of her and since I wanted her to rest, I would not call or visit until she got feeling better. Today I get this call and from what the doctors are telling us...it is not good. My kids are in school, didn't get to see her, she has been shipped to Burlington, and they have school tomorrow. I am planning on taking a day off this weekend on Sunday to drive over with the family, but I am not so sure she will make it that long. What did I do......if I would have just went against what my step grandad had told me and showed anyways..my kids may have seen her. But then I would have worried that it may have caused her stress and then not helped matters. I knew this was coming..deep down I did. So many times I thought about stopping and seeing Grandma when she was home so she could see the kids, and because she is such a heavy smoker, and my daughter really gets ill from it, I would just put it out of my mind and say...., maybe tomorrow. Please pray for her....please? Thanks

Swamphunter
She is in Burlington now...I just heard from my step-grandad and he said that she is very weak...and is requesting no company, and no phone calls.... Out of respect for her....I leave the phone on the cradle. I did have him tell her we are making the journey over there on Sunday as a family. (As long is she is stronger and o.k. with it. He told her tonight so I feel a bit better at least. Thanks for the prayers guys....

Swamphunter
well, have been in touch with my father and mother who are in Burlington and they sais that my grandmother is looking a bit better as they have been giving her blood. She starts dialysis today, and they have controlled the fluid in her lungs. She just can't breathe weel, but that is also because she contracted pneumonia. Things do currently look a bit better though. My family is heading to Burlington on Sunday.

wildside
I'm glad to read that you and your family are going to be able to make the trip to spend some time with your Grandma. I hope it is a nice visit for all. One thought that I personally have about the time around a loved-one's end of living on this earth (whenever that time comes): Remember, it's the lifetime of the person, not that exact moment of the final breath, that represent the person and all of the times shared together. Those are the memories of life and the piece of a loved-one that remain in our hearts forever.
