Guest ExtremeSoloDubV
Here's the scenario.... You have 3 benches running along a ridge side..... The top bench or 1st bench is in decent view of the 4-wheeler trail coming in which is also the top of the ridge, but is the widest across (75yrds wide) until the drop off into the 2nd bench.... The 2nd bench is approximately 50 yards wide....The bottom bench or 3rd bench has a few run-ways coming off of it but for the most part is the edge of a very large high wall and is only 35 yards across....The entire area is very dense, large tree cover-no thickets but heavy cover created through old fallen trees, old timber, and a old looking landscape, no vegetation on the forest floor b/c of the thick canopy.....Which bench would you choose to hunt? Now - The next year, that old, very dense forest with hardly any vegetation on the forest floor is timbered, not a clear cut but a 16" and up tree removal....With this in mind which bench would you choose on opening morning? **Please respond, I'm anxious to hear what you all have to say! Thanks
PotashRLS
I don't hunt any property with that kind of terrain but I would guess I would scout it with some cameras if you have them. I would then hang an observation stand in a high area that is the least intrusive and scout from a distance depending on the cover. I would also watch the wind and the thermals along those slopes. Get your wind puffer out and see whats going on. Best advice I have. Good Luck.
Sam16
I hunted a bench of a ridge last year and shot a 10 point off it. a very good ambush point, but this was the only bench on this particular ridge. I would say hunt the one that is least intrustive, as it sounds like it may be a bedding area. Deer love to bed up on ridges. Good luck and keep us updated
