wtnhunt
I built one primarily for getting the kids out and for the wife, but I do occasionally hunt from it myself. It is 6x6x6, all steel frame welded. It is pretty comfortable, but I did not get the best possible placement when I set it up, and it is permanent. Really wish I had gotten a little farther up the hill, but the wife insisted where we were setting it was where it needed to be. Here are some pics Ended up going back and adding visors over the windows and putting on an ondura roof over the shingled roof.
okiedog
I built mine for the same reason as wtnhunt. To get my wife and son outdoors more. My wife took her 1st deer out of it Thanksgiving Day last year. Mine is all wood, 6' x 8'. It has hinged plex gun windows, and removable bow shooting windows. toddyboman
Yup they are nice for getting out of the weather. We have 2 on our land. We used telephone poles and then framed up the box. Then used tin for the outside. Added some windows that fold out and shingles to the roof and bam instand blind. :D:D The ones we built are not as big as the other two posted but they work well on days when the weather is nasty. Oh ours are not permant we have been known to move them around. And they are GREAT for kids.:)
98chevy
Ours are framed out of square tubing. 16 ft high and have tin roofs with camo wrap sides, pexiglass windows and slanted steap and wood step depending on the stand. We also have what we call quad pods. We set this up in clear cuts and pastures. Its just open top for 360 shooting. I like um cuss we built them 10+ years ago and replaced the camo wraps last year for the first time. These stands also got hit by katrina and only one was bent beyond repair. (it was about 50 yards from its orginal staked postion. Also when we lost our lease we can stack these stand on a trailer and take off with them. Ill get pics soon. TreeWalker
I just spent the past two days building a portable one........4x6 on two foot stilts......easy enough to tip and slide in and out of the pickup box. Like the others, I decided to build mine so that I could be more mobile during the cold snaps, but also to start taking my kids and wife out with me more. I'll try to get some pics posted tomorrow.... I really like the archery windows in yours, Okiedog....smooth idea, that I may have to incorporate into my next one. I also like how many of you put the ledges above your windows....I wouldn't have thought of that till i seen all of yours....thanks for the help. MichiganHunter
I have one that i built on my step dads 40, I love it, mine is up in 3 large old cedar trees, i have not shot a buck out of it (its in the U.P. of michigan and hunting is hard up there) i have it all boxed in with 1/2in board and painted dark green to blend in with the trees, it's about 18 feet up, it's got a roof covered in shingles and custom made plexy glass windows i cut out my slef, I also a hose run up so i dont have to run to the ground to pee, i also have hose run up from a 50gal propane tank for my lantern and my heater, nice when it's ya know in the -20 or so and the 2in styrofoam insulation is very nice
TreeWalker
OK...got a couple of pics taken. For the door, I just cut down an old solid wood door I had saved...... For the windows, i decided to go with home made sliders (haven't installed them yet).....with this system i will be able to alternate between solid and clear.....meaning If there is a window I want blocked off, I will just slide a non-see thru piece into place, and when i want a window I can see thru I will just slide a plexiglass section into place.....or combinations. She is ready for paint, which i need to go pick up today, and I need a section of carpet for the inside......oh ya, and some old snomobile hifax to mount on the one side to allow it to slide inand out of the truck box easier.
