Hunting Land (ownership)

My Dad and Mom have 80 acres that was part of the extended home farm (not connected) from the 1950s. I purchased half of the 40 north of it from the neighbor. He could have sold it to others but because of my involvement in Hunter and Bowhunter Ed and Land Stewardship, he sold it to me. He told me that. Sure makes a guy feel good. That gives us a total of 100ac. We have about 6 acres of food plots on Dad's north 40 and 12 acres of my 20 are rented to a neighboring farmer. The neighbor told me I get first crack at the remainder 20 acres when he's ready to sell. It's nice when a handshake still means something. :D:) We should all count our blessings!

As of now I just have permission to hunt 2 properties. One is 30 acres and the other is 80 acres.I do plan on purchasing my own property within the next 5-10 years though. After watching the show Whitetail Properties on MOR I think it will be doable for me.They say money from leasing out farm ground, crp, and timber management programs you make a decent chunck of the payments.

A whopping 3 acres for me. :D

Other than that, I'm at the whim of people nice enough to let me hunt their land.

I hear you there Tominator. My Dad and I own 11 acres behind my Grandmother house that we hunt on. It is surrounded by about 500-600 acres of crop land. We have a creek running through it which helps pull deer in. If the neighbors ever said stay out we would be in deep trouble. We also have another farm next to my Dad's house (about a mile away) that we have hunted all my life. So again, if they said stay out I don't know what we would do. The best thing to do is respect the land and wishes of the landowner and help them out any way possible. Because they are helping you out by letting you hunt.

Me and a long time hunting buddy ( more like a brother than anything ) just bought almost 400 acres. We plan on finishing everything up as far as food plots go and everything else next year.

I don't own any land. I hunt on my girlfriends family farm, a place my dad and I pay for every year, and my uncles farm. The land owner is a good friend so we pay hardly anything, especially compared to what people pay nowadays in Missouri for hunting. Leasing is way to expensive. Wish I had my own land though, its too expensive to buy and just hunt on it.

I dont own any land, but I used to want too. Then I got to thinking that even if you had the land paid for, you would have a hard time just paying the taxes for what you can lease a decent property for each year. So I figure rather than buying property, I will just lease if I need to and if the spot goes dry, Ill go lease elsewhere.

As of now, I am fortunate to hunt on a 600 acre farm (150 to 200 of which are timber). My dad and I have access to one hill for the majority of the season, and then after the guy who pays to lease the better hill is done, then I can hunt there. So far, Im still holding the record for biggest buck taken on the farm, and I shot him on the hill not many people like to hunt on:D, and Ive shot a buck on this farm the past 3 years running.
