Bowtech_archer07
I was just wondering what you guys preferred. Right now I'm shooting 150 gr. of loose Pyrodex powder, but I was considering switching to pellets because i've heard they shoot cleaner, and they are much easier and faster to load. I'm new to muzzleloading and I just wondered if there was other things that I needed to consider or any other advice you guys might have..... Thanks! wtnhunt
Really honestly dont know that loading would be any faster with the pellets, but then again I have not had any reason to try them. With my particular black diamond, I get good performance from 240 grain tc xtp mags pushed by 120 grains of pyro. No way to get 120 grains in pellet form at least not that I know of. Powder works for me. Pre measured into my quick loaders reloading takes very little time. Next time I try a different powder it will probably be triple 7. Reloader
I use the loose Triple 7. Primarily because it is so much cheaper. As for ease of reloading I do what wtnhunt said...pre measure a few loads into a quick load tube adn keep the bullets seperate. Just dump the tube and ram the bullet/sabot. As to the theory that they are cleaner, they are the same thing just the pellets are compressed together, seems to me the loose would be cleaner since it doesn't have anything in it to help hold form. But don't quote me on that, havent' realy checked into it much. James
lil hunter
I use loose powder. Mainly so I can shoot in increments other than 50's or 30's. I'm using 90 grains of 777 powder right now. If you are set on using 150 grains of powder, pellets vs. loose is just a personal preference. But if you ever need to work up a load, you have a wider variety of choices using loose powder.
Tecumseh
I use loose because you can taylor your loads for maximum accuracy.
Brad6639
I shoot 2 50 grain triple seven pellets, because its quick and does the job. I used to shoot 150 grains of regular pyrodex pellets and then stopped when I realised I was not getting much more performance out of the third pellet and just wasting powder. Ive shot deer out to 226 yards with two pellets, so I figure theres no need to experiment with a proven winner!
PA_RIDGE_RUNNER
Hi guys Just a quick tip and a must to remember with loose 777. Loose 777 is 15% more powerful than the other loose powders. In other words to equal a 100 gr load of any other powder you will only load 85 gr of 777. For those of you who want those shoulder busting powder wasting 150 gr loads you would only load about 120 gr of 777. If you load 150 gr of loose 777 you are way over the maximum charge for most all rifles and way into the extreme danger zone. Have fun out there but please remember to reduce those loose 777 loads by 15%
HoosierDaddy28
I shoot pellets. For me it is easier and more convenient than shooting loose powder.
MichiganHunter
I like the pellets over powder, i've tryed both and the pellets are faster and if u ever go out hunting real early in the morning they are much easier to load in the dark, and i dont know if they shoot cleaner with todays gun i cant imagine that cleaning would be a hole lot worse with one or the other, but for me the easy loading first thing in the morning and when we do deer drives it is easy to spill loose powder vs. droppin a pellet and just grabbing one more. I'm sticking with pellets my groupe at 150 yards is 3 inches
Guest adrenaline_junky
I shoot the pellets. It's up to the hunter. Either one is better than the other.

revhard
I used to shoot powder a few years ago, and recently in the last few years I've shot pellets(2). but this year i bought the Nikon BDC 250 and Im gonna be shooting 150 gr. so im gonna try shooting the pellets still first, and if it dont work then I'll go back to the powder
