dawgitall
Great info. Thanks for the tips. After the leaves have turned but before they have fallen, cut branches the right size to brush in your blind/stand. When all the leaves fall off the live branches, the leaves on the cut branches will not fall off and will give your spot more cover.
CTBowMan
Another trick is to take the licking branch/branches from an active scrape and then attach it (using tie wraps) over a mock scrape that you've set up to lure/stop a deer within shooting distance of your trees tand in a different area. CTBowMan
scouting/topo's etc..... Here is the program I use to do some scouting, you can use the tabs at the top to select different types of maps, and you can also pan and zoom as well, and if you select the topo tab at the top, you can zoom, and print topo maps for FREE! http://mapper.acme.com/ ~ Van
oklahomalandman
Hey guys I am wondering if anybody has any info on feeding peanuts to deer. I have heard they like it but never tried it. Any info would be appreciated.
ChrisSeb53
hey guys i got a trick for ya... i gut a deer with a 2.5" blade... instead of breaking the pelvis when field dressing your deer, start out at the anus and cut around it as deep ad you can go into the cavity... then when you disconnect the esophagus and pull... everything comes right out... plus there is no exposed flesh to get dirty from where you would have split the pelvis.. AND you have more control over a 2.5" blade than you do a larger blade.... your fingers will appreciate that when you reach into the body cavity... Osceola Slayer
I use old pill bottles and cotton balls. Tie a string around the bottle and hang from a tree branch. When you're donne for the day you can cap it up to save it for tomorrow. An old PA trick. 35mm canister, turn upside down poke small hole in bottom, put small twine through tie knot on end pull back to hole. Will hold canister upside down. Fill canister tightly with cotton balls, then scent and cap. You can leave these in the field if you hunt the same stands often by capping them on the way out, and opening them on the way back in. Never really used them myself, but alot of guys swear by this technique, esp using dom buck and doe esterous in different containers/areas. I personally drag line, or more often than not prefer to throw scent bombs out from the stand, gettem when I leave, makes alot less noise getting in then all the moving and noise of putting them up. NEBRbruiser
The 35mm trick does work pretty well. Fairly cheap as well. If all else fails you can always use what girls have to use once a month. Sounds nasty but works quite well! Hang from a tree and put your scents on accordingly. bowhunter97
The smartest thing my family has done as atrick is making a sent bomb out of cheap items. Ok so take a wooden clothes pin and put hot glue on one side and take a small camera film container (doesnt matter which color) and put the open end toward the part you squeeze pushing it into the hot glue to hold the container to the clothes pin. Then put a couple cotton balls in the container and add your favorite sent. Then cover the container with the lid. Take reflective tape and wrap around tthe container so on the dark nights you can recover your sent bombs. its actually an easy process. adkinst
Another thing I've found that works well is plain old' thumb tacks. I leave them on the cardboard they come packaged on and spray them with orange lawn marking spray. It glows like crazy when any amount of light hits it. I just press them into a tree about every 25 yards or so. They light up like a Christmas tree when you point any type of light source toward them. Just another idea. im your huckleberry
Redneck trick I've used for a few years is when driving into your hunting area is spray some doe in estrus on your tires to disguise any scent that is in your vehicle it stops the buck in the to have a sniff. While you are at your blind the truck don't spook them with human scent. Edited October 2, 2019 by im your huckleberry
shaheerahad
On 9/20/2007 at 9:26 PM, CTBowMan said: I don't know if this belongs in this forum or not, but here goes...just something that I've done, that works that I'd like to share with the rest of you. Instead of buying TreeTacks to mark your trail to your stand, what I've done is this...Bought a package of wooden clothespins, and wrapped reflective tape around the ends you squeeze together, coated them with polyeurathane (sp)...and I use them to mark my way in and out to my spots, by attaching them to branches along the way to your hunting location. The good thing is that you can then take them down after each use and no one will know where your secret honey hole is by being able to follow tree tacks to YOUR spot, what I like to refer as (stealth mode)...ha ha ha. The good thing is you can also use them to mark blood trails after you've made a shot while tracking your trophy, by attaching them to limbs along the way, and when you've found it you can take them down and re-use them over and over again un-like the tree tacks that would require you to pull them out of the tree, or "TP" that could blow away, or dissolve if tracking in the rain. Granted they probably won't work as well as "TP" if you have an emergency, but at least now you won't need to bring a full "roll"...ha ha ha. Another bonus is that they are small, and lightweight so you don't need to worry about getting weighted down carrying a bunch of them. Hope this helps, Good Luck, and Happy Hunting!
