Well, here's my thought. I believe he is a 4.5 year old. I'm not saying he couldn't have that kind of mass at 3.5 but, I haven't seen too many that compare that I know are 3.5. With that said, Someone made the comment about being 120". I have to agree with that. I don't think this deer has it in him to ever reach 140". Don't get me wrong it's a nice buck and anyone ought to be proud to shoot him. Now from a quality herd management perspective, do we want his genetics spread? I like the mass but, I'd like to see a couple more inches of spread. I wonder if he'll gain much next year or if he'll just get a few more stickers? Thank you for all your responses!

I agree with the 3 1/2 age. Usually our 2 1/2s dress between 160-185 or so. I'd think this one will probably be close to 200lbs dressed. He has real nice mass, a little too much for a 2 1/2. If you get him in bow range and you are not sure about shooting, you probably shouldn't. If he comes in and you have no doubts, take him. Seems like the tines are on the shorter side. Is it just me or does his mass make them seem shorter? Dandy buck!!

I have a rule where I don't shoot a deer unless it is bigger than one I have already taken. With that being said..... I dont follow that rule very often:D. I have passed on a few bucks the last few years that if I had the chance at them again, I would have busted them. It is a gut feeling for me at the time. No doubt in my mind I would shoot that buck here in Oklahoma with a bow. We just dont have good quality deer here:rolleyes:. Good luck to you Randy, you will make the right choice in the end.

I am in the same situation...I have a buck frequenting my food plot and property that is a real nice 8 pt...perfectly symetrical...but I just can't tell if he is a shooter this year. I have seen him from about 100 yards at the closest...got him on film too.

I just don't know yet...but my brother is convinced he is a shooter and is ready to lay the smack down on him.

I'd say he's about three and a half. I would personally pass on it IF you think he's got a good chance to make it another year. If there is a lot of hunting pressure where you hunt though i would probably take him. Thats a great lookin deer. good luck.

That is a great deer for where I hunt and I's stick him (if I didn't get the fever first). My advice is compare him to what your area is capable of, his odds of surviving the season, and what your gut instinct tells you to do.

I'd have to be 100% sure that he would still be in the area in another year or so.Around here if you don't take em someone down the road 1/2 mile will.

Myself, the next pictures of him I would post would be me holding onto this horns and grinnin. He's a deer most anybody would be proud to harvest.

That's a 3 1/2 year old deer and he WILL be bigger in the next few years. If you want to shoot him and you get the chance good for you if your happy with him. But please don't justify with the getting his genes out of the herd excuse. That buck will be a real monster given time. What it comes down to is you have to shoot what makes YOU happy to **** with everyone else.

I had my first close encounter with him last night. I had him broadside at 20 yards. At this point of the game I decided to let him live. I'm not saying I won't shoot him later in the season, It's just a bit to early when I know there's bigger ones out there. He did however earn a nickname last night, he's now known as Papa Chubby! :D

Body wise comparing to what we see here that is a 3.5 year old buck minimum, possibly 4.5. Better broadside pic of the neck into the shoulders would help a little. Here no doubt he would be down first chance he gave me, but deer like that just dont happen along around here, with the excessive number of hunters around you just dont see deer make it past 2.5 all that often.
