Abear
Here in southern Indiana and parts of Kentucky there have been a lot of dead deer found. We think they are getting blue tongue. I haven't found any personally but i know some guys that have found a few. Know somebody that even found a big ol buck dead in the creek. AaronS
Southwestern IN has been hit hard by EHD this summer because of the drought. I know of a 172" 10 ptr, a big 12 ptr, and a 145" 9 ptr....so far. I haven't even had time to check the property I hunt.
wtnhunt
It is probably ehd, not blue tongue. There have been several posts about this topic. Most of the southeastern United States are seeing pretty bad die offs due to ehd this year. I read an article that said that in this state that it is expected that as many as 40 percent of the herd may die off in some areas. Here is a link to another recent thread on the same topic that you might find interesting http://www.realtree.com/forums/showthread.php?t=61842
danthehunter
Here in Southern Illinois it is definitly Blue Tongue. We hunt in Marion, Wayne, and Washington Counties and have found multiple dead. Right now Washington county is suppose to be the worst in the state. I know of one person who has found over 20 dead deer. My friend had found a couple and called the DNR to report them and they said that due to the drought, many deer are getting Blue Tongue. Im not sure if you know how it works but i was told that all cattle carry it, but doesnt effect them; since it is spread by a parasite: nats, flies, no see-ums, etc... and due to the drought all of the deer have to water in one spot if they can find any, well since they all have to drink there lots get bit by the parasite and get infected. My girlfriend had 8 pen raised deer and lost 4 of them due to blue tongue, and what do you know, there is a cattle farm right down the road.
