smallmunster
I have not been out hunting yet, but my camera has picked up some good bucks in one of my hunting spots. I'll be looking for this one soon.
sskybnd
that is a real nice looking buck, hope you get him.
Squirrelhunter91
Good luck with that buck smallmunster!!! How's everyone else doing? I'm hoping to get out this afternoon and fill another doe tag. It won't count for points for us, but I'm hoping to go shoot a doe for the Venison Donation program. Cutter
Good luck with that one Chris. I hope you can put a tag on him.
LLBUX
Nothing on the ground yet. Had several does in front of me this weekend. I'll put one down sometime! Have seen a couple of bucks running does(including a potential Booner). Rut may be kicking in soon. Good luck all!
Squirrelhunter91
I'm heading to our property upstate where I have a chance at bear, turkey, coyote and bobcat. Oh yeah... and deer. But there really isn't any big ones up there. There's the same 3 does I see everytime, but they're safe til gun season. Looking for a big buck or a bear. Something different than what I've been seeing here in Rockland. Good luck to everyone who gets out this weekend! Get some points for us!! wildside
Frustrated How is everyone doing? I have been hunting pretty hard this past week. I have some days off of work, and my husband has been going into work late to take care of the kids so I can put in some serious time. (I love that man!) This morning, I was late getting up in the stand and made enough noise to sink a ship. My bow string was all caught up in a nearby tree, so by the time I was all set to shoot it was 10 minutes before sunrise. I almost just got down and said forget it! Well, 10 minutes before I was planning on climbing down from my morning hunt, a gorgeous 10-point cruised by within 25 yards of me. Complete bummer is that there was never a secure shot opportunity. His walking route was exactly in the one place that has the most scrap brush and twigs. I wasn't about to go flinging arrows out of desperation, either. So, I'll just keep on keeping on and hope to see him again. What would any of you have done - try grunting or bleating or just let him do his thing? It's really been frustrating, though, as I've not seen nearly the deer that we have in the past. The state put in a huge corn field down the road this year for the first time, and I think that maybe the deer are too happy with that to wander much. Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Good luck to everyone else, and I'll keep you posted on the one that got away!
Squirrelhunter91
It's a tough call with that buck. That close, if you were to grunt/bleat at him he would freeze and look around for the deer that sounded so close. Probably would've spooked him. Passing the shot was probably the best thing to do. If I were you, I'd hunt a funnel leading to that cornfield or hunt as close to that cornfield as you possibly could. Only because the does will be in there feeding or going to and from there to feed and the bucks will not be far behind. The rut is underway. I rattled in the same buck twice yesterday. It's that time of the year!
wildside
Passing the shot was probably the best thing to do. If I were you, I'd hunt a funnel leading to that cornfield or hunt as close to that cornfield as you possibly could. Thanks, Joe, for the supporting words on my choosing to pass any shot attempt on that buck. How I wish that there would have been an open lane. . . Thanks, also, for the advice. Truth be told, my husband kindly set up an old homemade stand for me on the state land close to the cornfield yesterday morning. I was home with our daughter when he did this. I walked to the stand yesterday for an evening hunt, only to discover that my husband has FAR more confidence in my climbing abilities than I do! He put the stand WAY up in a white pine and thought that I would be able to shimmy my way up without issue. I tried, but it just wasn't in the cards! (We hesitate to put up a stand or ladder worth anything on state land. . . too many thiefs out there, sad to say). I sat on the ground then to just observe the nearby field and didn't see one thing, but they're surely out there, as we saw scrape after scrape. I told him to go ahead and hunt that stand. At least one of us should make use of what is surely an awesome spot for activity! Problem is, he insists that I shoot one before he sits. Guess I'd better learn to climb quick or hope that my 10-point wanders through again by my stand!
Cutter
Hello team 4. Havent been here in a long while. Weve been looking for an acreage for 3-4 years and found one to are liking. we put our home on the market and sold it. There hasnt been much time for hunting with all that has been going on. I was able to sneak out on the 30th and filled a anterless tag and put some meat in the freezer. We take possession of our new place today at noon. Most of our stuff is packed , moving should take a couple of days. Im hoping to get in some of the rut after the dust has settled. Internet hookup may take awhile so picures might be a bit of a wait. Good luck to all. Shoot straight. wildside
Scored! Hi, team. Last night I took a 5-point buck with our muzzleloader. I just posted pics and the other info on the official thread so we'll get our credit. By the scoring standards for this contest, that fifth point is a squeaker. . . we'll see how it's judged. So, at least another 9 points for us. . . hopefully 10! Good luck to all. I'm hoping that elusive 10-point is still out there and maybe, just maybe, I'll upgrade before this whole thing is said and done! smallmunster
I managed to arrow a doe today in a special antler-less only deer reduction zone. This also happens to be my first bow kill ever. Sorry about the poor picture but I was in a hurry with turkey day rapidly approaching. Hopefully, a buck will be coming soon as well. JPGS22
8 point Well team, luck was finally on my side today. I went out early in the morning and didn't see a deer until about noon and the woods came to life. I saw 23 deer in one hour and was lucky enough to harvest this nice 8 point. He almost made nine but not long enough. Good luck to you all.
