Sucks when work gets in the way of passion! I am sure you will figure a way to fill that tag, Tony...;)

Mark wasn't home last night so the barn idea had to go to plan B. He keeps all his contractors supplies in there and for the life of me I forgot where he told me he hid the key. (I remembered when I got home) Was a wet but interesting night to say the least. Please read about it in my journal.:)

I'll get back to working on my checklist for Iowa this week too RB. I'm not going to try to keep it simple and light this year though since I won't have a 2nd hunter riding with me this year. There will definately be some items I'll have more than one of. :D I should still be able to see out the back of my Yukon with my rear view mirror though.

Just a few more days of antibiotics and antihistamines/decongestants to go through before I'm almost back to normal. With less than a week left before I leave I'm not going to risk going out in the weather and getting worse now.

RB...Don't forget extra batteries for your camera, flashlight and rangefinder. ;) Also if you have a preference for good quality TP, I suggest you put that on your list. :o:D

Rhino, Thanks for the heads up on the batteries and especially the TP. I forgot to write that down.

I always take more stuff than I use clothing wise. You always want to be prepared for the weather hot or cold. I have to take a couple of fixed stands along with climbing sticks and my climber. All the necessities for the hunt itself are already in the fanny pack. I always take an extra bow with the arrows for it. Being DIY hunts I'll need to take some eats, as well.

I hope you are feeling better for your hunt. I can remember being down with a serious head cold the first time I hunted Illinois.:( Was no fun at all.

Thanks RB...I think I'll be close to 100% by then. I feeling better every day now.

My hunt is a DIY hunt too so I'm taking 3 hang on stands and a climber along with my tree steps, pole cutter, climbing belt, etc. I still need to organize my gear along with washing, drying and organizing all my colder weather hunting cloths. I'm also taking a backup bow too. I always do. There have been 2 occassions when I had to use my backup bow before. Once on a whitetail hunt and another on an elk hunt. Being caught out of state without a working weapon with your hunting time being so limited would be a disaster.

Let me tell you about no luck at all, whatsoever. :D I've been out several times, had deer around me with full intentions on shooting the first mature doe that steps into my path and can't get them to do it. Missed a few weeks back and haven't had any luck since. Does get close and something goes wrong - winds me, catches movement, takes another trails, etc. The bucks I've been seeing are not shooters so far. Hopefully things change this weekend, I'm taking Friday and Monday off to bowhunt only.

Good luck Alan, hope you have some luck in Iowa. Sounds like a fun DIY trip.

The rut is on and the weather will be perfect this weekend!:) Just finished a Physiology exam so no exams on Monday.:D

I'll be out there all weekend, but Sat will be tricky. Wind changes directions around noon, and I'll have to change stands then. Can't hunt the T w/ SSE (am) and can't hunt the wood lot w/ WNW wind (pm).

Have a good weekend everyone.

Well, I got the last of my things together for the trip and will be leaving sometime tomorrow. I can't wait to get out there. I will try not to let the price of fuel get me down:(!

I will not have access to any computers so I will try and keep a log of my hunts. I wish everyone the best in their pursuit of points for the team and will be looking forward to reading about them on my return. :D

been out a few mornings and just havent seen a shooter. passed a bunch of 120 to 130 class bucks, rut is kicking into high gear here. maybe i might see the one i want.

i need to completely re-evaluate what im trying to do here. im working so much its making me make decisions about if i want to go hunting or not. im so tired at night, but cant sleep. then trying to get up with only 2 hours of sleep and hunting all day then going to work is just to hard on this old man.:D

good luck to everyone and shoot a good one.

i went and hunted my GB stand this morning. it was a chilly 19 degrees outside. saw 9 does and 1 scraggly small buck.

i figured for sure when i saw the 5 does in a group they had a whopper after them. not that lucky i guess.:p everyone of the does went by me from 10 yards to 25 yards.

im going to hunt Dougs tomorrow morning. should be good weather and maybe my luck will change.;)

Just an update...

I'm still waiting for pics to come back so I can enter my doe.

Moral of this story is...USE YOUR OWN CAMERA! ;)

Anyway, I haven't taken any more shots with the bow but I did have some close encounters. Including one encounter last weekend with a brute of an 8 pointer. Wide and heavy with a body to match the antlers. I think my heart stopped for awhile. I was hunting in the thick of things in a cedar swamp. He came up behind me where there is alot of cover. I never had a shot opportunity. But it was great to see the monster.

Gun season opens this weekend and I'll make sure I have my own camera so I don't have to worry about the pics for the team.

Best of luck to everyone!
