i got a stand hung at dougs uesterday and i saw 7 deer near my area when i walked in. i got my climbing stick attached and then while i was fine tuning the stand, a doe and yearling walked by at about 30 yards. :D

i was kind of amazed they didnt even see me since i was hanging off the side of the stick with my safety belt on. im going to let this prime stand sit a few days and then go back Oct 4th or 5th to try and shoot a doe.

i will be out in the morning at my GB stand. im hoping i see a doe. my gears ready, bows set and broadheads are sharp. would be cool to tag a doe the first morning.;)

i got to hunt the first day in the morning and it was just nice to be out. weather was cool 55 degrees, cloudy and a good wind from the NNW. only thing is i didnt see any deer from my GB stand.

this stand is on public land and theres a lot of huge cornfields nearby. im thinking this corn needs to go out before i start seeing a lot of deer. i dont know why, but this stand just feels right. its raining here so im camped out in front of the computer.:D

weather should get nicer as the week goes. im planning on hunting my prime spot thursday morning at dougs.

Went and sat in the corn yesterday evening. Just a couple of rows in, along a hay field, overlooking a bottom where the deer bed. Didn't see a tail until last light when a doe and her two fawns appeared in the hay above me. Must have been bedded right in the corn, those tricky rascals..... Had to wait until they were out of sight before i could sneak out.

Will be taking my climber someplace where the acorns are falling. Need to give my newly hung stand a chance to cool a bit before I sit it.

Hang in there TG, you will be hunting before you know it. It does seem like a good long time for NY to get started.

Yes, it was a bit lonely, Tony...This morning I was in the company of a small group of doe and fawns. They were within 40 yards, but I could barely see them through the fog. I thought of you as i ranged one at 31 yards....:D They were hammering the acorns as they fell. Don't know what is up with those bucks though????

Hope you have a good day.....:)

saw 1 doe this morning at the GB stand, i just couldnt get the right shot. she came from the east and was traveling west. she crossed my shooting lanes a little to quickly and by the time i got my act together she was out of range.;)

i made a grunt noise to get her to stop, but it was too late. she stopped in the wrong place.

but it was exciting to see a deer from this new stand. i have really high hopes from it in late oct. i just have a feeling im going to rattle in a big one here.;)

im off to dougs thursday morning to hunt it for the first time. i have no doubt i will see does there and probably get a shot. its loaded with deer.:D

What a difference a night makes. Went to the new hung oak tree stand and had a very good hunt. Had it not been for a woman looking for her lost dog I may well have had a shot opportunity at a couple of Jersey giants. These two bucks were in a group of five. All shooters 8 points and better. They came out of the woods across the meadow (200 yards away) and were milling around on the edge for a bit. The oak tree I was in was dropping acorns like gangbusters and every time a bunch hit the ground the deer looked in that direction They started coming in my direction when out of nowhere this lady starts calling for her dog. The big buck stopped and stared up towards the calling and all five turned and ran down the meadow. Dang! One house up there and the dogs out...

I shot a doe last year on the run the bucks came out on last year on a morning hunt. I have a plan using my climber or back to the oak, but need the wind to dictate which. What a time for near record heat to go along with all this...Just hope the dog don't get loose.....

Sounds like a close one ruttinbuc, it will happen for you soon.

Tominator and I had a similar encounter last year on an evening hunt, not with the big bucks, but with a woman walking her dog through the woods right at prime time. Saw a few deer running away from us and up the other ridge and wondered what the heck is going on, soon here she comes up the trail, 40 yards from us and she never knew we were there....:D

Yes, Tom it sort of bummed me out, but things happen for a reason I guess. I was all pumped up to run back up there today. It was way too hot and problems the heat brings with it brought me back to reality. I don't think those bucks are leaving that area any time soon. At least I hope not. There has not been too many guys out and about yet which will help me maybe get the drop on one of these bucks. Can't do anything but try and hope...

Well one week left to go, can't wait, especially to hunt the college land. With bowhunting only there, I think, and andy thinks, there's some big bucks there. We went out tonight to check our stands, saw plenty of does. I think this heat is keeping the bucks hiding. I might go over and scout it tomorrow. Good luck guys, keep hitting the woods!

I put some miles on today..Andy and I went over to the college land...found a few spots for stands and got myself a little ground blind made behind/between two big oaks or hickory trees, can't remember. It's on the side of a hill, with a well travelled trail about 10-15 yards from it and the corn field is about 50 yards away. Deer should either come from in front of me or behind and beside me....I think if the wind is right, might have a chance. Oh yeah, got a scrape and rub on that trail to:) 5 days to go, and a big cool down end of next week!

I know I will try getting out in the morning. May be the best bet with this heat wave. It is supposed to rain on and cool down on Wednesday. Can't wait.

I went to Cabelas this afternoon and got a pretty good deal on a SKB soft bow case. Found it at the tent sale. I looked at them in the store and was not about to pay $110 + tax. The Primos case was $57, but too small for my bow. I have a Newberry Sabre XL that is 38" axle to axle which makes it 42 inches with the cams. Long bow, but accurate as all get out. Anyway I figured I'd check and see what was in the tents and lucked out finding the case for $70. I could probably put two bows in the thing. All kinds of compartments. Will really come in handy for my trip to the Midwest.
