MossySNPR
Sorry I haven't been that active guys, I haven't forgot! I've been out for only two bow hunts, I've decided that because of my lack of scouting this year, its best if I limit my hunting until the rut stages. I do know on my new solo property their is a big mature buck walking the east fence row, every year, first week of November. Surrounding properties are gentle farmers that do not allow hunting, so I know unless he was hit by a car or fell on his last year in winter he will walk that fencerow again like he did the past years, and with the owners MRI, i'll be there with my shotgun by that time. Late october should produce BIG chances for me, because by then the hunt club members will be almost fed up with rockin' geese and ducks and focus more on trees and bucks . Anyways boys just checkin in!! By the way, the hunt club is up to a whoppin' 550 geese so far this year between members and guided hunts. Sick year! MUDRUNNER
Pretty disappointing weekend for me.I hunted my other farm for the first time this season.I'm not heading back up there till the rut starts heating up some.I hunted 3 hours Friday night,4 hours Saturday morning, and 4 hours Saturday night, and seen 0 deer. The weather was decent, the wind was good, and things seemed just right, but for some reason movement was minimal. We still have a lot of foilage which doesn't help.I might try to get out Tuesday evening and that will be it for the week since temps are going back into the mid 70's all week. wtnhunt
Finally got a chance to get back out this morning, but the weather is back to warm again and it was pretty windy. Saw 13 turkeys, they were actually within 12 yards of me for a while, too bad there is no fall turkey season here, at least I now my camo is doing its part. No deer, but did find a freshly opened scrape line just a little ways into the woods intersecting to the trail that runs directly behind me. MossySNPR
hey Wtnhunt, thats great you already have a pre-season scrape line open and active. I'm not sure of the rut stages where your from but if I found an active scrape line opened already I would definately save it until the pre-rut when your buck decides to start moving more in daylight hours, to tend his scrapes. You could have a nice buck there buddy, take care of er'... GO TEAM
mo_hunter
what do you guys think ? Nice job, looks great
wtnhunt
hey Wtnhunt, thats great you already have a pre-season scrape line open and active. Kind of early yet really. Pre rutting activity usually picks up the end of this month here. That scrape line leads along an old logging road that comes out of the woods at one of our food plots. Muff
well guys I posted this in the bowhunting room I hope I did not screw us out of 15 points....but I know I did the right thing. I know it was the right thing to do but I may be shut out of horns this year because of it....I let a 2 1/2 year old 10 pointer walk last night....if he makes it this season he will be a GIANT next year.....he had small brow tines but 8 inch g2's and 6 inch g3's with about a 12-14 inch inside......it was all I could do not to shoot...but I watched him for abot 30 min in my food plot and watched him walk away...hope I see him next year. going out again tonight...by the way my buddy shot a nice doe lastnight....I will post pics later in the bow hunting room. MUDRUNNER
Another uneventful night for me last night.Right at 6:15 when things were getting prime some guy and his kid decided to go for a walk in the woods on the neighbors property, which is only about 50 yards from my stand,so that pretty much ruined the hunt.I did see a white racoon though at about 6:30.That was pretty neat...never seen one before.Pulled my trail cam and still no bone, all slickheads.I'm thinking about moving the stand I hunted last night this weekend, but I'm more than likely done hunting for the week.Highs are supposed to be around 80 the rest of the week. wtnhunt
Sounds like one with a lot of potential Joe. Would have a hard time letting one like that walk here. Things should hopefully get a bit better here this weekend, looks like it is supposed to cool back down to the 40's overnight Friday night. Forecasting a west wind though, and that is not really a very good wind for the setup I was wanting to hunt.
MossySNPR
Nice nice boys gitter done keep it up! Headin' up north this weekend to check and hunt a perennial scrape area I know of. Should be getting around that time it becomes active. The buck that made the scrapes last year was not killed, I know this because of what the surrounding hunt camps killed and my bud who killed a yearling 6 point there. Going to go in two hours before first light, hope for the right wind, hang on my stand and sit all day saturday and half the day on sunday. Thats all I will hunt this spot until the first week of rifle. Anyways, you can't kill big bucks on the computer boys let em' have it goodluck! Wimpy
I will be on vacation next week, spending the majority of it in the woods. Hope to put some points up on the board.
MUDRUNNER
Well,my season is off to a bad start. On my one property I had to move my stand because someone else is hunting on the neighbors property and put a stand up not far from mine.I moved it in the rain yesterday and am not too crazy about the new location, but since this property is so small it's about my only other option. On top of that the landowner of my other place to hunt called and said that a new guy will be shotgun hunting with us up there this year and that starting this weekend two other guys will be bowhunting it also.We have a small group of guys that go up during the summer and mow the grass, fix the tractor, trim the field road back, and general maintanence, and now it seems like he's just letting anybody go up there and hunt, and no doubt they'll probably be hunting my food plot this weekend.I can't wait till I get my own property.Enough about my rant. Highs are supposed to be 78 tomorrow and 82 on Sunday, but looks like a cool down next week.I doubt I'll go out this weekend, but will probably have a few sits next week. dogdoc
Went out Wed AM with no luck. A front was moving through with very high winds. The cottonwood I was in was swaying back and forth. No movement at all--even from the girls. I checked my cams and do have some nice bucks working the area:
Muff
yep doc I would say you have some nice ones...I will not get out again till next week sometime.
wtnhunt
Good luck to everyone getting out this weekend. Should be a good morning here tomorrow. I hope so anyways, the wind is supposed to die down overnight and temps get more seasonal down into the 40's, but then they are calling for it to get back up in the 80's during the day. wtnhunt
Should have been a good morning here Saturday, but saw nothing. Put quite a bit of time in the stand over the weekend and got skunked.
MUDRUNNER
High temps and 30 mph winds kept me at home this weekend.I had to get a few projects out of the way anyhow so my schedule is all clear for the rut. It's supposed to cool down some this week and hopefully I'll make it out some this week. MossySNPR
Well fellas the ol' pre rut is startin' to kick it into high gear! Getting colder here, found 8 new scrapes opened days prior to my hunt. Nothin' but the ground and bushes are going to take a poundin' by mature bucks the next few weeks. Now we can start to call just a little, follow those rub lines and hunt those prime scrape areas, its the best bet for this time of season! MUDRUNNER
I'm heading out tonight for a sit.Our weather is finally back to normal with highs in the 60's so hopefully things around here will pick up.I'm setting my pop-up blind up tonight on a field edge so I'm not sure what will happen. We have a pretty strong north wind but hopefull something will be moving. On the plus side I'm working on a new farm to hunt about 20 miles from me.I work on a buddies dirt modified race car and his family owns a farm that they are pretty tight with, but it sounds like they'll let me hunt it.Only one other guy bowhunts it and his family just gun hunts it.I'll find out more by next week, but it's looking good. MUDRUNNER
Nothing again last night. With the wind blowing about 30 and the near full moon I guess things weren't moving too much.I found a dead doe when I was hanging my trail cam last night.Looked like she had been there for a few weeks.Only thing left was the legs and bones.I found her at the edge of a drainage ditch that usually holds water so I'm thinking it was EHD.I'm hoping this spot didn't get hit too hard, but the number of deer I've seen has been down about 50 pecent from the last few years. wtnhunt
Looking bad here guys, my hopes are sinking fast:(. Got the youth hunt this weekend with my oldest daughter and I am really hoping we even see anything. The rain is still coming, so not sure how much movement there will be along the river banks if the flooding continues. Flooding should push deer to higher ground and too our fields, but in the past, just does not seem like when we have flooding that we see any deer or movement is more eratic. Cams this past week have gotten no pics of deer on our property, only turkeys and yotes. Not sure what is up there, but that is not good as the deer seem to have vanished:(. wtnhunt
Got out yesterday afternoon late, was misting and light drizzle coming down with the temps being around 50. Had about 20 turkeys and a young doe with button buck come out about 4:45 and they fed into our grower plot. Had the doe at 30 yards, but opted to let the youngsters walk. Was kind of entertaining watching the doe charge the turkeys a few times.
MossySNPR
Right on guys keep gettin out there! Headin to the pre rut spot I have picked out this year, The stand will be hung tomorrow morning at 5AM on a large corner patch of hardwoods protruding into a massive cornfield thats inbetween a major road and a row of busy country houses. Lots of scrape activity I found while turkey hunting made me choose this spot, I haven't even been in there once this year but I know its a perennial hot spot. I'll see what the does and bucks are up to at this time of season, hope I slam one for some meat, memories and points for the boys. Guns to the lungs and giver' to the liver! Goodluck
