Well everyone, I killed a doe tonight. I was walking to my stand around 3:15 and when I was just about to walk up to my stand 2 deer snorted and ran back over the hill. I couldn't believe there were already deer moving by my stand. It worried my a little that i spooked them off and they snorted all the way up through the woods. Around 5 I could hear a few deer walking and suddenly two little does came out into the field edge that I was hunting. One of them stayed off about 40 yds or so, but the other one came by the stand at ten yards and I make a perfect double lung hit on her. She ran about 80 yds or so and piled up. I had trouble finding her because there wasn't very much blood at all. I found blood on my arrow, then didn't find any blood for another 20 yds, then there was about 2 drops a little further up the woods, then nothing. I was a worried because I knew I smoked her, but yet no blood. I walked up through the woods looking for her but no luck. I got a little frustrated and I was going to go back to the last spot I found blood and try to find more, but on my way back I walked along the creek at the bottom of the ridge and there she was laying in the creek. Her is a pic, sorry its a little dark.

I'll enter her for now, but if I kill a buck i'll upgrade it. Went out this morning and had two come by. I missed the biggest of the two does, she was at 40 yds and I shot right under her. My dad killed a good size doe this morning. The two I saw and missed were with the one he killed. I'm going back out this evening, so we'll see what happens.

Congrats on the doe!

I'll be heading out this afternoon for hunt #27. Should start seeing more bucks this weekend. Hopefully I can upgrade my 9 score and help lead this team to victory. All we need is for one of us to kill a nice big non-typical and we can take this thing. Or how about every body just wack themselves a nice 10 pointer and I think we'll take it as well.

Gotta have dreams right?!

I'll be taking my first camping trip of the year(and probably last) this weekend. I'm headed up Friday night to my lease in Honobia. I'll be staying through Monday. Wish the temps were a little cooler, but with the moon and the rut going strong, I should be on the deer.

Since this might be my only time hunting the lease this year, I may cave in and harvest a young buck. I've passed up so many this year that it's starting to eat on me.:D

Anyway, hopefully I'll report back Tuesday with a big buck.

Good luck to all and congrats to those that have harvested deer!

Well been hunting hard the last couple days and have seen no bucks, but lots of does. I guess the rut hasn't kicked into high gear yet here in southern Illinois. Tonight I killed another doe, she came out at 5:15 and offered me a 30-35yd shot quartering away and I drilled her. She ran about 50 yds and piled up. Here is a pic! I'm on vacation through monday, so hopefully I can get a good buck and get us more points. Good luck everyone!!

Guys and gals, things are looking bleak right now. I have killed 3 bucks so far(at least 8 points) and have yet to find a single one. Two were due to bad decisions on my part and one was due to a downpour.

I'm hoping my luck changes soon. I'm actually taking the rifle out this weekend for our opener. Maybe I'll connect then.

Saw a couple 3.5 year old 8 pointers yesterday and this morning but let them go. They both would have scored around 130" or so.

Climbing a tree this afternoon for hunt #44 of the season. Maybe that's a lucky number. Bucks were running does hard yesterday but it seemed a little calmer this morning. Hopefully they'll pick back up this evening.

Continued good luck everybody. Let's wack some big ones!

First time in the stand this season this morning. Saw 2 does, 2 yearlings and a spike. Doe was just a blowing but the 2 deer in the shooting lane weren't bothered by it. I thought that was strange. Then I saw the spike. She was just mad cause he was there eating her corn. LOL

I am holding out for the big one boys........hopefully it won't be too long. They won't be in full rut around here til early January.
