LifeNRA
Missed a BIG doe tonight! Her and her yearling walked towards me slowly and never gave me a shot. She got under my tree, looked up and jumped out to about 25 yards and started feeding again. Not once did she ever look back my way? Weird! She stood broadside, I drew back and for the second time in three years a little limb veered the arrow off course! Grrrrrrrrrr! I got down found my arrow, nothing but dirt on it! Clean miss! But Ill tell you, IT WAS HOT TONIGHT!!! Never again! I got to wait till cooler weather comes before I climb another tree! But it was still a good evening hunt! DSGB
They're calling for high's in the 80's and lows around 72° this weekend, with a chance of showers. Looks like I'll be going fishing. Next weekend is looking a little better, with lows around 63°. Come on cooler weather!
fenderhunt4
The heat has been hard for everyone. I've been out a few mornings trying to catch deer on their feet during the cooler part of the day. No luck yet. Can't wait for it to cool down! Guest andymansavage
Sounds like everyone is getting out, good for you. my hunt starts in two weeks. I am watching the snow fall on the mountains out my window right now. The weather is perfect, I just need the time to go faster! High today in the low 50's. oo_buck
Went spotlighting with my brother last night. I honestly have not been a bit excited yet, because of the heat. Well, after what I saw last night, that's all changed. There is an absolute BRUTE living right next door to the ground I hunt. I just have to get him to move about 300 yds west of his current home. Gonna try to get a picture of him. This guy, is far bigger than I thought lived in my county.

buckee
Signatures Hey, Everyone now has the ability to upload their sinatures, directly from your computer, instead of having to host them somewhere, and Everyone now has the 30k limit for their signature upload, (instead of 13.0 k) directly from your computer. Also, everyone now has the WYSIWYG editor, even if they did not before. They can change it back if they want, but everyone now has it. Everyone can thank Scott and Brittany (at Greyloon.com) Right click on the picture(signature) and "Save image as....". choose a folder somewhere in your computer to save it in, such as "My Pictures", which is found in "My Documents", so you know where to find it when you upload. Then go up to the toolbar in the forums and click on "User CP", and "Edit Signature" (upper left hand side in grey strip toolbar) Then scroll down to "Option 2 - Upload Image From Your Computer" and click on the "Browse" button. Then go to the folder you have the picture stored in and click on the picture. Then just click "Save Signature" . That should take care of your signatures. billkay
Been out only a time or two at home but will be hunting the early M/L season in KY next week. I have posted the doe I took a couple of weeks back. Had several good deer moving on the KY property. Found out yesterday that I'll be hunting the same, awesome 1600 acres in Iowa in December. Can't wait for that!

fenderhunt4
Well, I saw 3 small bucks on Saturday morning and 5 does. It was nice a cool--mid 30's to start the day. The week is kind of warm again so I hope that doesn't shut down the movement too much.
DSGB
I saw three young bucks Saturday morning. Two of them sparred for a while about 35 yards directly behind me. They hung around for about an hour, but never offered a shot. I jumped a deer about 50 yards from my stand on Sunday morning. I saw a doe about 10 am, but she stayed in the thicket about 40 yards away. I got down and went and ate lunch, then moved my stand about 15 yards closer to the edge of the thicket they're using. I saw where a deer had been bedded less than 40 yards from where my stand had been.
LifeNRA
WOW! I actually added my stand time since Thursday! 24 hours!!! I hunted Thursday night, Friday morning, Saturday morning, and 8 hours on Monday! All that time and no deer close enough, seen 14 deer total! But I feel good about these two spots! Guest andymansavage
Well, the camper is loaded, the truck is gassed up, and the fridge is full. We pull out tomorrow for the 5 hour drive down to our camp. We will set up at the base of a large canyon formed by 3 smaller ones. The quakies should be losing the last of their leaves and the smell of moist earth, rotting leaves, and campfire smoke will be a welcome break from the daily grind. Saturday will start at 4 am with some hot cocoa and and then an hour-long drive to the top of the canyons, there are no roads down in the canyon itself so we have to drive quite a ways around to the top. I will navigate my way down the cliffs at the top just before it gets light so that I am a quarter mile down the canyons at a good vantage point when first light comes. It looks like temps will be in the 30's sat morning so it will be a cold wait. I hope to catch the deer out feeding in the meadows as it gets light, and maybe see an old mossback mulie before he slips into the thick pine jungle to bed down when the sun hits the hillsides. I will probably glass from the top of the canyon until mid-day, hoping that any pressured deer will slip over into this steep, nasty area. The afternoon will be spent slowly still-hunting my way down the canyon, looking to catch a tired buck resting in his bed. I will arrive at camp after dark, hopefully with a nice rack strapped to a meat-filled pack. But if not, I will do it all over again for the next 4 days. I love this game. Guest andymansavage
Hey team, Just got back. Sunday morning I was hunting on the monroe in southern Utah. My dad dropped off my brother and I at the top of some cliffs to do an all day hike down to the bottom. we had hiked up from the bottom on the opener and were ready to do it again. We had gotten 100 yards into the trees when my dad started yelling "big buck, big buck" on the radio. We booked it back to the truck and my dad showed us where the buck had gone into some NASTY deadfall timber and dark pines. We gave it a few minutes and got on the track. There were a few inches of fresh snow, making the tracking job easy. We wound through the trees for an hour and the deer appeared to be slowing down. I turned to my bro and told him that we needed to slow it down because the deer may be close. I tucked my rifle under my arm and started to move forward again prepering to pull out my binos. Two steps later the buck exploded out from behind a small bush on a hill 20 yards away. My rifle was in a horrible position and I voiced my displeasure with a quick "####", as I fumbled to raise it. By the time I got him in the scope I had a 1/2 second shot straight away. I thought for a split second about a Texas heart shot, but aimed at the neck instead. He was stotting and bounced right as I shot, causing me to shoot over his head. He was gone in an instant. We tracked him for another mile and lost him in some cliffs. He was 25-26" wide and 20" tall, a perfect 4pt with good forks in the 175" range. It was fun, but i have been going over the shot all week. If I had been carrying an open sight rifle, or had mine at the ready, I could have put him down as he stood up. Oh well. Here is a video clip my bro took after we lost the track so you can see how thick it was. I was pretty bummed. Andy
