Early M/L season in KY was a bust. We saw about 75 total deer in 2 days but most were does. Saw a few bucks but only one of them was even close to what I was looking for. Plenty of time and hunting left to do though. Rifle season begins on Nov. 10th and Indiana guun on the 17th. Also have a trip to Iowa for M/L in Dec. and bow season in Michigan.

Okay,

Went out Friday morning for a "quick" hunt, had made plans for later that morning into early afternoon.

Started to my treestand at about 6:05.... moon was too bright. I didn't need a light to see, I could actually see my shadow in the moonlight.

Very short story.

Saw nothing, heard nothing. Was grunting, and using my rattle bag, starting at about 6:30 give or take a few minutes.

Seemed to be par for the course based on the last 2 weeks or so. I was even debating going home. One last time on the rattle bag.

I did about a 30 second sequence, then hung my rattle bag on one of my hooks. I look up, into the picked beanfield, and here he came. He had cleared about 30yds of open field by the time I first saw him. Running straight toward my stand, I almost didn't have time to get my bow in hand before he was stopped, standing within 25yds of me. His head went behind a clump of brush I drew back, he stepped into a small opening, I said a quick prayer and released. He dropped on the spot at 7:57AM.

Saddly, he didn't die quickly as I had hoped. I hit him in the shoulder, and he couldn't get up. I had to shoot him again.

There was never any question he was a shooter in the whole 12 seconds I saw him before the shot. I'm just thankful that I was given an opportunity to take an animal like him. He is my biggest deer. 9 points, just at 18 3/8 spread.

Pics to come.

Way to go oo buck! That's a great buck!

Congrats to struttinhoyt on your buck! Got any pics?

I got out once this past weekend, but didn't see anything.

We're starting to get some nice cool weather down here. Only a couple more weeks before Alabama gun season opens and I'll be spending more time in the stand.

Well, I haven't had much time to get out. My wife's grandfather died and she headed to the funeral in NC. My oldest boy (8 yrs) and I are home alone and I am going to try getting out on Thursday while he's at school. On the bright side, I did gain two more hunting spots tonight from a guy at church that seem promising!

I am taking tomorrow off and going with my uncle to his boss's property. We both have to take our daughters to school first, though, so we won't get out there til about 8:30. I shot a doe there last year before I even found a place to sit. They have some good genetics in those parts, so I'm planning on holding out for a goodun.

I also have monday off for Veteran's Day, so I'll be hunting the next four days, except Saturday afternoon (Football!!).

Good luck to ya'll this weekend!
