Guest rutnroy
we had 5 stands stolen and 3 were cabled and locked. they had to have known where these stands were and came prepared with bolt cutters. this is on private property and i'm not sure if it's even safe to keep stands out anymore. i'm thinking of just building permanant stands , don't really want to go that route but feel i have know choice. unless there's a way to lock these stands that would be nearly impossible for them to cut off. Guest bowhunter56
now days if someone wants something they will find a way to take it, have you thought about setting a camera out, cover it real well, and try to get some pictures of the them.. Guest rutnroy
thought about the cameras, but if their doing this at night they will see the flash and steal the cameras too.
Guest adrenaline_junky
I don't know of any sure way to lock your stand and to keep it from gettin stolen. It's unfortianant that someone would even do that. Sorry i couldn't help more and good luck.
Tominator
Scumbags will always find a way. Buckee had a dirtball cut the tree down on him and take the stand that way. Personally, I'm done with providing stands for buttwipes; I'll stick to my Summit or places where they respect landowners.
bwlacy
Man that sucks!! I've had stands stolen on private and public land also. Besides locking them up, I try to fold the stand flat to the tree to make it less visible, and I take the steps or climbing sticks down also. That way they can't get up the tree. If they know where they are though and want to they can just bring a ladder or some steps. There is no sure way to keep them from stealing your stands. You can build permanant stands, or use climbers, or find a way to catch the scumbags. I hope I never catch someone stealing my stand, afraid what I might do over a tree stand. Does anybody make a cable that you can't cut thru? I've had cables and chains cut.
dartonman
Do what I have learned to do....take out the steps to the stands, at least the first 5, and mark them with sticks, so you have no trouble putting them back in to hunt.....or, do what I plan when I get the bucks, portable climbing sticks, and a lightweight stand...I lost over 200 dollars last year to really good thieves.....they better never cross my path, cause Im mad enough to go to jail over this one............good luck buddy......al
MichiganHunter
I have the same issue, bow hunting i'm on public land, gun on private so dont have to worrie about it there, I have had stands people have tried to take my stands but so far not successfull, I put mine up with the normal stuff and than take two or three braided steel cables and lock the stand to the tree with 2 or 3 diff pad locks and then i take the ladder down untill opening day, also if your platform folds up fold it up and take a cable and fish it through the stand floor and chain that to the tree...if that dont work i dont know what to do, even if they cut the tree down there goin to have issues gettin it off...of corse you can alway get a nice climber, my Viper works pretty good. snapper
There is no padlock, chain, or cable that I'm aware of that a pair of bolt cutters can't snip right off. There is no way a stand is safe is someone really wants it. Sorry, but its the truth!
Guest rutnroy
been checking around , and found there is a security chain and lock that is suppose to be bolt cutter safe. but they are expensive. i'm going to look into it more. but for now i'm going with permanent stands. the security chain is called krytonite if you are wondering. Guest Finn
I had a Kryptonite....lost the key to my lock...cut the cable but placing it on an ax blade and hit it with a 2 pound hammer about 4 times That was 2 years ago, so maybe they have changed em. Sucks to lose your stuff...I hate that people think it's ok to steal
sskybnd
i feel like this, a chain and a lock will keep an honest man honest, but when it comes to a plain theif, it realy dont matter how you try to secure it they will find a way to take it, as for a camra i think i would be afraid they would find it and take it losing more hunting stuff, its ashame when you cant leave your stuff on land you own or lease that some scum bag wont take it,
wildthing
Man...that is just crap. Why can't hunters just respect one anothers property! The bums and degenerates out there that do this stuff is what gives hunters a bad name! I feel for ya! I had someone tear the ladder out of a permanent stand that I had on MY property a few years ago. Like a few guys already mentioned, if someone wants something bad enough, they are gonna find a way to get it. I am amazed at the number of stands you had stolen. Who do you hand them with? And where are you hanging them? I only hang stands with my brother and really only hunt with him too. I tend not to tell "others" where I have stands hung. It stinks to have to keep stuff secretive and vague sometimes, but I spend a lot of money on my equipment and am prepared to "open up a can" on someone that takes my stuff. Good luck! Randyman
The only sure way is to buy a climber and take it when you are done hunting. If you are having stands stolen under the circumstances you describe, it's by people who came prepared to do just that. They can't steal something that isn't there.
