revhard
I just ordered my new scope(Nikon BDC 250) for my muzzleloader, and have been slightly hearing something about a wielrd way of sighting it in. Does anyone know anything about this? Also, does anyone else use this scope and how do they like it? Accuracy?
wtnhunt
Not too sure how different the scope is really than the nikon prostaff with bdc or the other ballistic plex reticle type scopes on the market. Think you will find that you will have to check the reticles with your particular gun as it will not be an exact match. The suggested loads and what information they give you should be close within a reasonable range, but will not be exact. I dont have the bdc from nikon, but do have the ballistic plex from burris. Had the scope on my .270 for a while, but never took any shots over 220 yards and at that range the graduated reticles really are not of any use. Guest trackerman64
i have to agree with wtnhunt, the manufacturers make it sound so simple but there really is more to it than what they let us all believe, i work with optics, guns, and bullets everyday and know full well that everygun is different and there is no way that you can take that scope and put it on any muzzleloader with their recommended load and have it be right on with what they say. we have tried it with several and each one is slightly different. although once you figure out what each dot works for on your paritcular gun it takes a lot of the guess work out of it
revhard
well I got the scope in, mounted and went to sight it in. Took a few shots, but i got it Zeroed in at 100yds. took the rangefinder out and set the target to 200 yards. shot the first bullet and it hit 1 and 1/2 '' high. not to bad IMO. seemed as if it worked out pretty good for my gun. Juat thought I'd let you guys know how it went.
billkay
I think the load that is suggested by Nikon for the reticle to be correct is 150 grains of pellets and 250 grain bullet. The gun that has that scope on it likes that load and the scope seems to work fine for me. My longest shot with it was about 180 yards and it where it needed to.
