Re: Amazing Iowa Hunt.......PICS!

Pointing dogs rule is right about them not damaging the buck population much in that county.I seen this on another Iowa based websight and heres what I could come up with. The deer were all taken within 1/2 mile of the farm more or less but if you go 1/2 mile in all directions from the farm hunting I believe it came to something more like a 3 square mile area these deer were taken from.

Notice theres not hardly any small bucks in the pics. The small bucks will still be there next year and theyll be bigger by then filling in where these bigger ones were killed. Also if you just look at the picture all at once it does look like the deer are all monsters. But look at the individual racks one at a time and theres really only a couple really big bucks in the trailer, theyre all nice deer but there not all huge if you compare them to other bucks taken in the same county. So I dont think they really even came close to wiping out the big buck population in the area either, Id like to see pics of the ones that got away myself grin.gif

Yep, those guys shot every buck in Iowa....Iowa will never see another B&C or P&Y buck come from there ever again.

Come on guys (Racksie, camel, Sir Rax Alot), do you believe that that made a dent in the population? It is 14 deer. How many skipper bucks are still out there after that season, only to be next years big bucks? How do you think these bucks got to be that big? QDM says let them go so they can grow. These bucks were definently ready to take. Skip the small ones and shoot more does is QDM, I would say these guys are right on track. JMHO.

So quick to point fingers..... confused.gif

Re: Amazing Iowa Hunt.......PICS!

Yeah Iowa, I think, is becoming one of the most big buck producing states. And Alamakee(sp) is one of the best counties in Iowa. So I really don't think that they hurt the population to bad.

Around my town of remsen in NW Iowa, there is a group of guys that shoots bucks only, I don't know why. They think they are making the population lower by doing that. but anyways last year they shot 22 bucks, they might have had 1, MAYBE over 120.

The rest were all little 2 1/2 year olds or just 1 1/2 year olds. But this year they come back to harvest 20 more bucks. The biggest scored roughly 125-130 and they had one that would've scored 110, the rest were little ones.

My point is, is you would think that they are hurting the population, when we don't have many deer wround here anyways, but they shoot 22, one year, and then 20 the next year. Where do they all come from. They only hunt in about 5 miles each way out of town, however many square miles that is.

these same pictures were posted last year, and the story "last" year was the same as this one, from the same place. so who really knows when this actually happened.

Re: Amazing Iowa Hunt.......PICS!

i think that its a bit overkill in my opinion. although, i have never hunted a place or have seen bucks like that hanging from any meatpole in my neck of the woods. so maybe for that area, they didn't even dent the buck population.

In all honesty I think that might be too many bucks to take within that small an area. There might not be any big ones left.

Those are some real brutes for sure but in no way, even if i could, would i shoot that many bucks.Especially from one area. But that's just me,we don't have a great pop of deer here.

Was it a bucks only hunt or were they allowed to take does?If so,it would have been better for them to have taken atleast half of them as does.

I agree for sure.

Re: Amazing Iowa Hunt.......PICS!

wow, that's a lot of nice bucks... little worried about a 3 day hunt and them just hanging out in the back of a truck....

if you bought a nice roast or a package of steaks from the store, would you throw them in the back of a truck or hang them in a tree for 3 days and eat them??

I can tell you that I can believe that load coming from IA, I don't question it one bit, maybe they lied a little on the whole 1/2 mile thing but no doubt in my mind they did that in the best deer hunting county in IA. We hold some brutes up here but trust me, it isn't like that everywhere, just in a few spots.

I too can't say I would take that many bucks in a small area, we practice strict deer management so we can have big bucks and lots of them. I really would have liked to see these type of guys just try and shoot maybe just the bigger bucks and take a few does, lots of guys practice buck only hunting and will only shoot a deer if it has any rack on it of any sort, this is ok but when they take that many bucks out of an area year after year and never one doe it just is very hard on the heard

IA is good hunting but imagine what could happne if these hunters tried a little QDM, have some great hunting.

Just my opinion but I can tell you that guys will go out and hunt buck only and coming from that county I wouldn't doubt seeing a pickup full iike that, it is heaven over there!
