EHD information thread

Seems to be a lot of these posts popping up, and rather than continuing on with more and more new threads, maybe we could post any questions or info related to dead deer, ehd or other dieoffs noted here in one place.

Here are some links with some good ehd information, anyone can feel free to add more.

First one here a very informative video clip, well worth watching for anyone with concerns, but the file does take a little while to load http://web.mac.com/tnwildlife/iWeb/TWRA%204%20web/TWRA%20Wildcast/8C3FD020-EE0E-41B2-841B-E0C8AF565D98.html

Next one is a link to a good article at the Michigan states DNR website http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,1607,7-153-10370_12150_12220-26647--,00.html

Last here are some links to other threads that have run here in this room

EHD/rain/temp...

finally getting a lot of rain here in southern indiana and a little cooler...horrible drought conditions and heat here for last few months have been miserable...will this help slow the ehd down a little or will it continue its devastation on our herd until the first freeze...between three of us we have found over 126 deer (43 of those bucks)..13 of the bucks we have found score between 125 and 160...pretty nasty smelling when you find them but just can't help but go out and see what we have lost before season begins...called the game warden and he is coming out to tag them for us...we had one nice bachelor group of 4 we were seeing and after this past weekend we have now found all four dead, scoring about 125,130,145,150...SUCKS!

Think I might have seen one with EHD last night. I was right near a small waterhole way back in the thickets. There was a deer not to far from the water when I got in there acting completely nuts, walking around in circles, making a ton of noise, never saw a deer behave like that before. My county is not one of the ones were EHD has been confirmed yet, so I am hoping whatever I saw was not EHD related.

Guest Camp Frosty

New poster here. I have been reading the forums for quite some time, but the EHD issue pushed me to register and post.

EHD has hit home for me here in Albany, NY. Last week approximately 20 deer (there are probably more) were found by EnCon officers, including some real nice bucks I am told. This is the first case of this in NY State. They were found in very close proximity to where I bow hunt, so I am a little nervous about this EHD thing. Originally found by a land owner who thought the dead deer were due to poachers, he called DEC and reported the problem. EnCon officers scoured the woods and found other dead deer. From what was written in the local paper (someone started a thread and posted a link to the article), this will die off as soon as the frost hits. However, it has been unseasonably mild here thus far this fall and this week it will get to 70 for the remainder of this week at least. So, I am preparing myself for a prolonged ordeal here with this EHD. I was in New Jersey a few weeks back and had heard about it down there and didn't think it would make its way this far north...but here we are. Hopefully it won't have a drastic impact on the herd. What a bummer! :(

Man that is a shame Fred. Figure ehd die offs would be slowing in most parts of the country with the colder temps coming on, will be interesting to see if our wildlife biologists here rethink next years limits here and whether or not they stick with the liberal limits we have now.
