slughunter
I have been following this buck since june and thought he was a nice deer. Its the 8-pointer I have been posting numerous pictures of hoping to be able to put an arrow in him. But now I got him after he has shed his velvet and im not so sure. What do you guys think, this is a non-management farm but we are trying to let some littler ones go. Here he is before he shed: Here he is after: here are some other buck pictures: -shane
IowaDeerHunter
I think he has potential, most deer do. I would definetly give him a couple years.
Tom2008
I think all those deer could use a few more years. I'd let him go Shane if you are going to try to manage that farm a little bit.
razortec_hunter
he's a very young buck. i wouldn't take him. looks like u got a lot of tall racks on the farm.
wtnhunt
Honestly Shane, I probably would let him go if I was somewhere I knew that he might have a chance. During our ml season I let a 7 pointer go here last year that was very similar to that first buck, probably a little wider though. That deer got whacked just up the road during the rifle season. PotashRLS
He looks like a 2 1/2 compared to the others in the pictures but is kind of on the weaker side for 2 1/2s. He does have some good mass going for him. He'll definitely add inches on if he makes it to next year. I would pass him. I think you would feel the effects of "ground shrinkage" if you shoot him. It depends on where you are in the evolution of your hunting career. Don't kill him just to kill him. If you kill him and are proud of it, just as proud as if he were a P&Y, you made the right choice. Good luck.
jcs3344
id let him walk on my farm hopeing that everyone else that hunts wouldnt not shoot him and they shouldnt, we are trying to take mature bucks and does on the place. He lost alot of mass when he dropped the velvet. I'd give him a nother 2 years and hopes he stays around. But if you wanna take the deer take him ! it will be a memory that you will never forget
arrow32
If he has a chance to grow I would let him grow. If not there is a good chance Id take him.
rhine16
I would let him walk, but if you would be happy with him, then take him.
Abear
I would let him walk at least for another year. You never know what you might see during deer season you might see a big one that you have never seen before.
