waterfowler_gal
Re: Duck Hunting in Minnesota It was a teal.... I was calling in a group of mallards but they were not wanting to come in and a group of teal zinged right past me in the blind and scared the poop out of me.... lol The only think is Jake really really likes rabbits... and when we were pheasant hunting in November he picked the scent of one and he chased it.. and the rabbit ran almost right through my legs and Jake almost took me out... lol

clayman
Re: Duck Hunting in Minnesota Carbonhunter, I hate to burst any images you have of our fair state, but don't bother with duck hunting in MN. Go farther west to the Dakotas if you really want the primo waterfowling. Yeah, you can find some good spots in MN, but it's nothing like North Dakota, or Manitoba and Saskatchewan Canada. waterfowler_gal
Re: Duck Hunting in Minnesota I have the luxiory of having access to 700 acres of farmland and 2 swamps around New Prague/Belle Plaine area... I also have connections out by Ortonville/Big Stone/Becker/Zimmerman/Elk River area.... The population for ducks has decreased a lot... It was a slow season and the weather didn't help much.... You really have to work for your birds which is what I believe hunting is all about... and be patient....
VABuckSlayer
Re: Duck Hunting in Minnesota Those are some great pics! Hopefully you will get plenty more pics of him retriving! I'm headed out Saturday to try my luck. We were in the wrong spot last week plus the weather was warm. Our season last till Jan 29. WABS
Re: Duck Hunting in Minnesota Thanks for the pics they are great. Grew up in MN myself and if there is a better hunting and fishing state I haven't found it. Enjoy!!

Missed160
Re: Duck Hunting in Minnesota Your right about the lack of ducks around here lately. I have access to land in the Montevideo area, and a lot in the metro area, very few ducks this year. The pheasants out in the western part of the state were surpirisingly good.. Lots of geese in the metro area too..
waterfowler_gal
Re: Duck Hunting in Minnesota It drives me nuts the geese in the Twin Cities... When your stuck in traffic you look over and there is about 200 sitting in an undeveloped area... They know they are safe... I saw a lot of trumperter swans in late October... and some sandhill cranes too... It makes sitting in the blind a lot more enjoyable... Pheasant was decent not spectacular.. Ortonville was awesome as usual.. but your so close to the border of South Dakota... I was sad this year because I did not even see one Canvasback or Bluebill.. nothing... I was out since opener every Saturday and Sunday...until close....

Palssonater
Re: Duck Hunting in Minnesota Looks like a good day in the blind. I have to make the commitment to start on some permananent blinds once I find a nice place close to home. Dogs are great. I was sure proud of mine when he did his first water retrieve. You seem to have the same grin that I have when I am waterfowling. I just can't seem to wipe it off my face!
