toddyboman
Does anyone else seem to think the new stealth cameras eat batteries or is it just mine... I have a I-450. I put new Duracell batteries in it a week ago and this week the low battery light is on. And it only took about 20 some pictures.:confused: Or is there some trick I don't know about??? My other/older stealth camera does not eat batteries this way.
nemodeerhuntersneighbor
It isn't just you todd. I went through 2 new sets of batteries and had about 40 pictures in 2 1/2 to 3 weeks on my v-450. I called customer service and I sent it in today. The customer service guy said batteries should last about 2 weeks. I told him that was freaking ridiculous. Then he said that with an external 12v battery it would last 6-8 weeks which is b.s. I have 2 of them and they only last about half that long on the older cameras. I guess they are just trying to sell more batteries. I hope there is something wrong with it because if I get it back and it does the same thing it will go directly to ebay. My v-550 does better but not much. I turned the resolution down to conserve battery life. I am pretty disappointed b/c everything else about the camera's are great.
toddyboman
Yup I agree with all your saying. The batteries should last longer than 2 weeks.... That external battery thing that they sell is $50 bucks
Sask-Hunter
The external does make a big difference tho, i heard if you tighten or pull the battery springs tighter to hold the batteries in stiffer will give you a better connection and better feild time. nemodeerhuntersneighbor
Hey todd you can get the external batteries for about $40 including shipping on bossbuck.com. They are expensive but when you figure the price of 6 C batteries it will save you alot in the long run.

bwlacy
I just put an I 450 out last week, haven't been back to check on it yet. Someone told me that the batteries will last longer if it is not in burst mode. Not sure about that. With those 12 volt batteries does anyone sell a solor charger? I see other brands that have a solor kit, didn't know if they would work with that battery. Can you use any 12 volt battery? What about a marine deep cycle battery? If I get the Stealth Cam 12 volt, then I would want 2 of them so I would have a fresh one to swap out. That's another $100. What about the rechargable C batteries? I've seen them at walmart. They are pricey, but I think they would pay for themselves in the long run. You can get 12 batteries and a charger for around $80, and just keep recharging them. This is my first trail cam so I have lots of questions, ideas about batteries. I don't want to buy 6 C batteries every week. Matt
toddyboman
I'm sure battery life would be better if it was not on burst mode. If you think about it, the camera would not be taking as many pictures so the batteries should last longer.
NEMOdeerhunter
bwlacy, the batteries that stealth cam sells are sealed lead acid batteries which are different than regular car batteries, im not sure if it would be safe to use a deep cycle or something like that. However, you can buy a bigger SLA battery, for example if the one stealth cam sells is a 12v 5.0 AH, you can buy a 12v 12.0 AH and you will be getting more than twice the run time. You have to make sure that the voltage is correct whether its 6 or 12 but the AH rating, the higher the better. You can buy a 12.0 AH battery for $28 plus shipping from batterymart.com. An 18.0 AH is $35. The charger would be another $18. You should be able to buy the correct plug from radio shack, then buy some wire and you can make your own complete setup with twice the power. Ill have to look at my stealthcam external to see what it uses but I think it is either a 5.0 or 7.0AH.
