best coyote gun

Plenty of good rounds for yotes, would probably stick with something in a .22 caliber centerfire or above if it was strictly for yotes. A deer rifle will work just fine for yotes too with the right ammo if you are not concerned about saving the hides, have used a .243 and .270 in the past. Using a rock river AR-15 in .223 here now, been impressed with it so far.

If you are interested in looking at AR's, get your best price, then check with RB Precision, they have good prices and can get what you want pretty quick in most cases.

budget of about 500 or less

Buy a savage in 22-250 or .223. Top it with a decent scope and you'll be good to go. Or you may be able to pick up one of the Savage or Remmy 700 "packages" that comes with a scope but it'd be in .243 which aint bad either. The scope would do until your able to buy a better one.

My biggest piece of advise would be for you to consider weight. I bought a heavy barelled varminter type and it's just too heavy to lug around all day. It weighs in at over 12 lbs with the scope and bipod and believe me, after 5-10 miles it's a burden. Especially if I drop a couple dogs. Extremely accurate and very easy to shoot but too heavy. I can easily hit a dog out at 300 yds with this rifle. I doubt you'd lose enough accuracy by going with a standard weight rifle. If you wont be doing as much walking as we do out west it may not matter though.

The BEST rifle in my opinion is an AR platform. This one weighs in at about 8.5 lbs with scope and bipod. Super accurate quick followups. It's a little trickier to shoot because of the shorter barrel, weight, and slower .223 bullet but it'll get-r-done for sure. The AR would be out of you budget though.

Thats my .02 cents, good luck.

Just Find A Rifle With Your Budget In Mind. I Prefer A 22-250 Or 223 With A Decent Scope. But It Doesnt Need To Be A Really Expensive Scope. $150 Will Buy A Good Enough Scope For A Coyote Gun.

I have two Howa's now. For the money they are hard to beat. I have a 22-250, which I load 52 gr. A-Max's for, and it shoots under 3/4 inch at a hundred pretty easily. I also have a Howa in a 223, it use to shoot atleast 1 inch group, I haven't shot it much since I broke a screw on the trigger(And maybe since I now have a Bushmaster Predator...). Howa's are very good shooting guns that are overlooked by many, if not a Howa I would deffinately go with a Savage for the money they are also hard to beat.

Can't argue with the choice of a Savage when a budget is mind. And generally they are pretty good shooters also. I had one in a 12V in a 22-250 some years back, and it was an awesome shooter.

For the extra dollars to start out though, I still prefer the Encore and it's versatility. In the long run, they are more cost effective. If you intend to shott a wide variety of chamberings. Depending on how and where I'm hunting, I use the 15" pistol barrel in the 243AI with 55gr's (pic'd cntr right w/ the heavy forend). And for long range work, the 6mm AI rifle barrel (the one w/ the JP brake).

The new savages with the accu-trigger are hard to beat for the price, but don't count out a CZ either. The CZ's come from the factory with a single set trigger that is super nice!!! As for calibers there are several to choose from and all work very well.............................223, .22-250, 243, and my favorite .204 Alot of folks think the .204 is too small for coyotes, but I have not had any problems with it. Taken several coyotes out to 350 yds with one shot and they never wiggled, much less run. Choose what you feel most comfortable in shooting and hunting with.

I just bought a Stevens model 200 in .223, same gun as a Savage 110, but without the Accutrigger. I shot it this morning using cheap 55gr full metal jackets, and out of 6 shots, 4 were touching. Adjusted for elevation, and proceeded to put 4 in the bulls. I shot both WOLF and UMC rounds, with no noticable differences in POI

A friend of mine has the model 200 in .22-250 and it is a beast. i shot 3 shots basically in the same hole at 200 yards with Hornady 55 grn bullets. And at $275 dollars you cant ask for a better value.

I love the trigger on it, also.

If ammo price is a concern, .223 will be a little less than .22-250 but IMO the .22-250 makes up in performance.

Merry Christmas and God Bless
