CrAzYCoYoTe
I was over at my brothers house not too long ago and he offered me a nice NEF .243 stainless steel barrel and receiver rifle with a Bushnell scope. He said he would sell it for $300. It looked BRAND SPANKIN NEW!!! so ofcourse me, always looking for a deal said ya gimme a week or so to think about it. That got me thinking bout how you never see a good single shot anymore being used. I was wondering what ya'll think about that.
Guest Finn
TC Encore is a single shot and seem to be very popular. Personally, I like my Browning A-Bolt. Missed my first shot 2 years ago and got the buck with my 2nd shot.
wtnhunt
TC Encore is a single shot and seem to be very popular. Yep, believe that is about the most common used rifle by the pros on tv. Me I am happy with my model 700.
toddyboman
TC Encore is a single shot and seem to be very popular. Yep. I hunt quite a bit with an encore. The thing I like about the single shot is it MAKES me make concentrate and be sure my one is good. Yes a follow up can be done but not as quickly. But I do have several other bolt action Remingtons that I take to the woods too. Kinda depends on where I sit on what gun I take.
CrAzYCoYoTe
Yall should just slap me now. It completely left my mind about the TC Encore. I was thinking about buying one here a while back. But aside from that gun you never see any others. Such as the NEF.

Brad6639
Ive shot deer with Nef's, they are great guns and very accurate. I have a nef 20 gauge and a .17 hmr. The reason you dont see them is because other companies with more advertising dollars got there first. Tv is all business, and if somone comes forward with the dollars, there product will get used. The encore is extremely popular and appears to be an excellant rifle though a little on the spendy side when you figure you can buy a great bolt for the same price or less. Im considering buying one for my next rifle because I believe I shoot way better when I realise I only have one shot and no others for a just in case kind of thing. preacherman
bought my wife, several months ago, a NEF single shot (handy rifle) in a .243. It has a synthetic stock and blued barrel. Had a 3x9x40 bushnell scope on it. Got it for $200 out the door.
Guest onesonek
New here, but I'll throw my 2 cents in. I have had a couple others, but my primary hunting guns are Ruger#1's and more so the TC Encore. The TC gets used in pistol configuration more than not. johnf
Wait till JohnF gets wind of this post. He is a huge NEF fan. Hey I resemble that remark. I'm on my 4th nef gun now. I've got them in 243, 25-06, 7mm-08 and now just for fun a 223. The 3 old ones all shoot sub moa with the 25-06 being the best. It will shoot MOA at 150 yards easily. I've had two minor problems with the nef. The trigger pull is a bit tight, but the factory will drop it down to right around 3lbs and ship it back to you all for free. My 243 had a problem ejecting spent shell casings when I got it. I took a brass barrel brush in 357 mag and polished the breach with it and havn't had it ever happen again. The stainless gun will run a little over $300 by itself I think, so that's a pretty good deal. Not knocking the Encore, they are great guns, but the first thing you notice is people buying a custom barrel because the thompson barrels aren't as accurate. So you spend $500+ for the encore then have to buy a new barrel for it at an exta cost. The NEF does the same thing as the Encore. You can put anything from a 204 ruger up to a 45/70, including some pistol cartriges and most popular deer rounds. Most barrels are a hair under $90 and the most expensive one is a fluted bull barrel for $126. So for the price of an Encore reciever you can get your NEF get an extra barrel and a decent scope for it. 1 shot 1 kill. How was that Ranger? CrAzYCoYoTe
I really liked this one becuz of the SS barrell and reciever. It aswell has I think a 3-9X40 SS scope.
johnf
I really liked this one becuz of the SS barrell and reciever. It aswell has I think a 3-9X40 SS scope. I have heard of some folk say that getting an accurate NEF is a crap-shoot. It is hard for me to believe becuase all of mine have shoot so well. If you get it, send it in for the trigger pull before you ever fire a shot if it hasn't been done yet. All it will cost is shipping to the factory and it will make a big difference IMO. Some folk float the barrel and have the scope and mount faced for better accuracy. I've not done either and my guns shoot better than I do. CrAzYCoYoTe
I myself have owned a NEF chambered in .223 Rem for kickin sum coyote assets. I had a Harris bipod mounted on it and a nice scope. Twas a 4-12x40. I drug it through the mud, dirt, muck and even one time when it snowed. So I know they are great guns at a very low price. Guest tughillterror
I don't understand if someone wants the single shot challenge , why not just put 1 cartridge in any gun ?
johnf
I don't understand if someone wants the single shot challenge , why not just put 1 cartridge in any gun ? There are other advantages too. My 25-06 with a 26" barrel is shorter than most 20" barrel bolt guns. They are also lighter which makes it easier to get into the woods with. With less moving parts they are less likely to have mechanical problems and with the inherent accuracy of a single shot they shoot better than guns costing 3-4X more. Brad6639
The other advantage with a break action vs just loading one shell is ease of reloading a 2nd shot if you do need it.
Guest Oklahoma Outdoors
true it does make u think about ur shot more. I shoot a savage 270 holds 5 rounds and I still think about my shot. I have always heard TC Encore is a good gun but if i wanted to shoot a single shot in rifle season i would use a smoke pole
