Filled my earn-a-buck on Sunday night!!! It was a night of firsts... A friend sat with me in a Double Bull and filmed me and I shot it with my new bow. So that makes my first deer kill on tape, first deer kill out of a blind and first with my new Reflex bow. Needless to say I was excited. Great footage also, 28yards at eye level. Love it. Now I'm Buck hunting!!!

Congrats. I wish NY had a earn-a-buck. The buck-to-doe ratio, in my opinion, is out of whack in NY.

Its funny, here in WI a few years ago we used to have to apply for a "hunter's Choice" tag just to be able to shoot a doe and they gave buck tags to everyone. Then if we wanted meat we needed to kill any and every buck we saw... 3" of antler on one side and it was down and you were camp hero for filling a tag. Oh how times have changed, for the better. I would almost like to see a antler size restriction of 3 or more points. Even though there are pros and cons(inferior genetics spreading) I think in the less managed areas it would allow more yearlings to make it another season or two.

Way to go on da doe :D

We don't have an earn a buck program here, but I sure like the sound of it. We (my 3 buddies & I) decided to earn our bucks this year as well. Now if only I can find a big enough doe. There sure seems to be a lot of smaller one's around this year.

Again...way to go !!;)

I hate the earn a buck. Im right in the middle of the cwd zone and have had to focus on this for 5 years now. Yeah I have zero problem shoting does, and I have shot a ton of them in the past 5 years, but we have now got where we hunt, to be equal buck to doe ratios and it sure isnt always easy to get a doe now. Ive had to pass on several pope and youngs because of this. Im prequalified from last year, but its an absolute joke here. It has gotton bucks a little bigger, but there are a lot less does than the dnr says there are. Anymore when I hunt, I see more bucks than does, never thought Id ever see that day. Im in faver of making you shoot a doe for every additional buck you shoot, but give out one buck tag when you buy your tag, just like it used to be.

congrats on the doe....sounds like it was a quite a hunt! I know the feeling of holding that buck sticker in your hands...its great aint it?? lol I filled my eab on opening nite on a nice doe...now i can horn hunt too. I have mixed feelings on the eab situation. In some areas of the state its probably a good idea...but definately not everywhere it is in action now. It has its pros and cons. Its pretty hard to enforce too..the zone next to the one i hunt isnt eab, so all a guy would have to do is shoot a buck and take it a few miles away and register it there. Still a lot of kinks to work out that is for sure.

I have no problem with EAB in areas where it is needed.........I too hunt in the middle of the eradication zone, but have no problems shooting at least 2 or more baldies a year, however I have heard of other areas in the zone where almost all deer are gone (they should not be EAB)...........the only problem I have with EAB is that the rules should be changed to DOE only ,not antlerless..........too many nubbin bucks get killed every year either by accident or intentionally because they qualify as an antlerless deer......if the rule was changed and a nubby didn't qualify you for a buck tag I think less buck fawns would get whacked every year.

Just my opinion
