woodsman2230
Last night I was hunting down here at school in a great early season spot. The deer travel through this area on their way out to the field at night. There are about 6 crab apple trees and a monster trail and some nice rubs right in the middle of it. I got into the stand got all set up and didnt see anything! I know the deer use this trail every night but not yesterday. At about 7 pm I see 3 does come whizzing past my stand and right behind them were two huge dogs Needless to say the hunt was over. Do you guys think that the deer will be back to normal assuming that the dogs arent around anymore? Could I hunt this stand again? What would you guys do in this situation? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
RangerClay
Two options. 1. You can call the Police and have them look for the dog owners. 2. SSS

bigbuck145
If the dogs ain't there i would think the deer would be back in a few days or so. I would give the stand a rest for a few days and the go back and do some huntin.
wildthing
I have had similar situation occur. The first thing I did was mail a very professionally written letter to my neighbors advicing them of the upcoming hunting season and please keep dogs confined to their property. Secondly, I call the dog catcher/ authority and was adviced of my legal rights and what actions can be taken. Giving the stand a rest is a bit trivial becasue if the dogs are still around...it won't matter anyways. Find out who owns these dogs and go from there. Tetro
You never know from how far away the dogs chased the deer. Once during rifle season we listened to dogs in the distance for about 45 min. Finally the sounds of them barking began to get closer and closer until they chased a doe and a button buck in front of me about 100 yards. I ended up getting the buck. So if the deer the dogs were chasing weren't the ones from you area the ones that are may be back sooner.

Guest antlerhead
The Deer Will Return Shortly. They Are Homebodies As Soon As They Know The Threat Of The Dogs Are Gone. They Will Make Their Way Back.
Guest bow_hunter101
I've had the same problem on my farm the last 2 or 3 years. there has been a pack of wild dogs that run deer all over the place. I shot a large doe year before last and they ate her up before I could get to her. Squirrel hunting last year my 12 gauge jammed and they ran me plum out of the woods. At the risk of sounding like Michael Vick I would say put 'em on the ground if they're wild, or if they are someone's pet dog I would talk to the owner about keeping them kept up. They are worse than coyotes about running deer.
Hoosierbuck
"SSS' = "shoot, shovel, shut up" If they are wild/feral dogs, refer to line 1. If they are pets and you can ascertain who they belong to, go the neighborly route. If you can not ascertain who they belong to, refer to line 1. The deer will be back, they are used to getting run by dogs and coyotes and wild kids on mini-bikes...they come back to thier turf when the annoyance is gone.
