Guest masshunt2144
I just got picked off by a doe on my first hunt with neon yellow vanes. I didn't move a muscle, she just saw me (20 feet up in a climber). I was warned a long time ago that deer see yellow well, but I couldn't resist how well I can see my arrows with 2 neon yellow and 1 neon orange blazer vanes. Was tonight just bad coincidence, or should I grab my knife and scrape those things off?????
Gator
I shoot two Flo Yellow and 1 Flo Orange feather and have never been picked off, and I am only 15ft up in a ladder stand
Guest antlerhead
I Also Use Neon Yellow But Only As The Cock Feather. I Havent Noticed The Deer Spotting Them. I Have Always Heard That Deer Can See Some Shades Of Blue, But Not Like You Or I. Otherwise They Are Pretty Much Color Blind Or So Ive Always Heard. beagleboy
I use yellow as a cock feather and to my knowledge has not spooked deer. I guess the only way it would spook the deer was if it was the last thing they saw coming at them. lol
Griz
No...It won't spook them... I have shoot my arrows with 3 Flo. Yellow for years... I say wack her the next time she strolls by... Good Luck to ya... Griz...
Guest bow_hunter101
I wouldn't think that yellow vanes would spook a deer. They are mostly color blind. I prefer 2 white vanes with a different colored odd vane. Using this combination with a white nock or lighted nock makes it extremely easy to see the arrow flying. wtnhunt
i don't think thats what spooked her...she just knew that nott on that tree wasn't natural in her house... Yep, sounds like she knew something was not quite right.
Straight Shooter
Being seen I hunt with all white vanes, I have never been busted due to the color of my vanes. White would be a color they could see or focus in on since it's their alarm color, I'm over here color, and the color they are more prone to see. I have my arrows in a hip quiver and spread out like a big ole fan tail, so I agree with Tom and wtnhunt you just got busted for standing out in an area she was used to not seeing anything. hoosierhunter
I had a doe one year pick me off twice in the same tree. For 3 straight years after that everytime she came around she would look up at that stand. At that time we were worried about the heerd and didn't shoot does. It was amazing to see that she could remember like that. You could identify her by a skin patch on her shoulder. It was pretty cool thinking back on it. Guest bow_hunter101
I saw on a Roger Raglin video that he sometimes leaves "decoys" in his treestands to make it look like there is a hunter. Sometimes he'll dress it in camo and an orange hat. The deer get used to seeing it up there and think nothing of it when they see you sitting in your stand. preacherman
I shoot two flo. yellows and a white. Never have been picked off because of my vanes.
Guest totalscaf
Don't think it was the vanes, if I was guessing, it was either smell or that "6th Sense"
ruttinbuc
You have to be aware of your background and not silhouette yourself. Deer notice things that are out of place in their neighborhood. Climbers are known to have you sticking out like a sore thumb. Try to find a straight tree very close to another and put the platform between the two. Even a tree that forks low to the ground that is straight on one side or the other. I find these before the season and use a couple of screw ins to get to platform level when I go to hunt them. Deer will also look up if there is a scent stream coming from above... Guest adrenaline_junky
i don't think thats what spooked her...she just knew that nott on that tree wasn't natural in her house... I agree, you have to remember that your in a deers home when your out there. They know exactly what is right and what is wrong you just have to get them to make a mistake. Good Luck
Hoyt03
I assume a big human sitting up in a tree stand had more to do with it then a little 4 inch strip of fletching

dbHunterNY
Don't think so... I don't think your yellow fletches are what caused you to get busted either. I use neon yellow fletches with a white odd fletch I don't have many problems or came to that conclusion. - Dan
hoytman26
Last Wednesday I shot a doe at 20 yards. When she came in she looked directly up at me. The reason she did is because she had been coming in to the corn feeder for 2 months with nothing in that tree. I stayed really still because I knew she saw something she hadnt seen before. Anyways we stared each other down for a minute or so and then she felt at ease and I gave her a free parking ticket. Also I closed my eyes because I really believe they can feel you looking at them. Call me crazy but its true.

Guest bow_hunter101
Also I closed my eyes because I really believe they can feel you looking at them. Call me crazy but its true. I definately agree with that! I always look down and close my eyes when getting stared down by a deer. They will spot you alot of times if you stare them down.
