muggs
In October, no one is better than Beckett, that's for sure. I think Fausto will prove over time to be the better pitcher overall though. His sinker is really, really wicked and he's got a decent slide piece and change. I think if he can work his change up and/or develop a fourth pitch he'll be on the level of a Santana. His inexperience and youth really showed in this series. No excuses, but he was getting piched big time. If the ump isn't giving him the low strike, he's really ineffective. When he has to elevate that pitch he can get in trouble, and JD Drew made him pay. Why does he want to get to Santana's Level..... I mean if Carmona is the "Best" pitcher in the AL if he gets to Santana's level then that must mean is he(carmona) is declining in ability......:p
muggs
He's 23 DB...Santana has been dominate for several years...that's the "level" of which I speak.

Nice backpeddling job. So, let me get this straight. Beckett is a better big game playoff pitcher, but Carmona is a better pitcher? Sorry, but you can win 47 games in the regular season if you want, but if you are going to go 2 innings and give up 8 ER in game 6 of the ALCS then what does it really matter? I'll take the big game pitcher anyday of the week.
muggs
Yup. Beckett is mustard in the playoffs. Carmona was lights out against the Yankees, but that ump (Dana something was his name) made that game about him, not the two teams on the field (you probably didn't watch it, but his strike zone was ludicrous). That's really what's separating Fausto right now. He needs to learn how to roll with the punches and make adjustments when the breaks aren't going with him. He didn't do that in game 6 and it was the difference. Carmona let that get to him and didn't make the right adjustments. But honestly, if you look at the season Carmona had (especially his second half) he was hands down, the best starter in the league. He's right at the threshold, this experience should help and with some very slight grooming he's going to be the most dominate pitcher in the AL- if not MLB. Heck, the guy started the year in AAA so time will tell. And if we look back on Beckett's career as a whole, it's good years mixed with average years. I struggle to call that guy "the best." But his playoff track record speaks for itself, he's a different pitcher in October, even as a 21 year old in '03. Btw- Fausto was dominate in one of two starts, so the potential is there for him to develop into a big game pitcher (the Tribe will have to make it to October first though). By chance, is Fausto related to Greg Oden?
