Guest bow_hunter101
What distance does evereybody feel comfortable shooting at with a bow? I would take a shot up to 40 yards because that's the maximum range I practice at on a regular basis and would feel comfortable shooting at a deer. I practice up to 60 yards, but probably wouldn't take a shot at a deer from that range. Just curious to hear everyone else's opinion. camoman1
the farthest i will shoot is about 35yds. Mainly because i dont practice much for anything past that. And in alot of my stands there is just too much brush, branches, and other things that i would have to take a bulldozer in to even think about shooting more than that. Master_Chief
I would go to 30-35 depending on the surroundings. Don't do any field watching. Stay much more in the thickets so I don't think I would go beyond that, 20 being the norm.
beagleboy
I feel most comfortable shooting anything inside 35yrds.
Brad6639
Well I would say 40, because thats what I praactice out to, but Sunday night I wounded a doe (hit just above the lungs) so I think thats a sign. If it were a buck it would have been in the money but it wasnt. I think 35 is it for me. I still am sick over that shot......

BearClaw
25-28 tops because that's what I practice at.
The Kid
i practice up to forty bt never taken a shot that far, but at 25 yards i'm money
arrow32
Won't shoot while hunting past 35 yards. Shoot well up to 60 yards and shoot those distances pretty frequently just don't feel I should be fling arrows that far at an animal of any sort. Mach1
I practice up to 50 because I want the shorter shots to feel easier. I feel very confident about shooting at a deer up to 40 yds, but a shot at that distance is a rarity in most of the places I hunt due to brush, branches, etc.
NY_Bowhunter14
35-40 yards max.
Griz
When I'm out practicing, which is pretty often, I will shoot out to 60,70 and sometimes out to 80 yards... The reason for doing this is that it builds up my confidence level for those shots that are 40 or 50 yards... But here where I hunt a 30 yard shot is all your going to get due to the thick timber. But I wouldn't pass on a 50 yard shot if it was offered to me...
rhine16
My bottom pin is set at 40, so i'll take a shot out to 43 or so. It just really depends on what the situation is though.
M00N
For me, 25 yards is my max shooting distance at the moment. I just don't feel comfortable past that with the draw weight I'm shooting. Next year if I can get my draw weight up to #50 I'll probably then start considering upping that number to 35 yards, if it feels comfortable. wtnhunt
Depends on the situation and how confident I am. Would not hesitate to shoot out to 35 under most circumstances. I practice out to 50 sometimes shoot to 60, but dont think I would ever take a shot on a deer past 40, and everything would have to be just right. Hoosierbuck
Like a lot of you I practice out ot 50-60 yards, but I can't see me shooting at an animal that far away, regardless of my proficiency. It doesn't make me comfortable knowing how small the margin for error is and and how long that 50 yard shot is hanging in the air. That deer could move and make a perfect 50 yard shot into a gut hit nightmare no matter how perfectly I do my part. Not knocking those who feel comfy with the idea, but I just don't like the idea of that deer taking another step forward and hearing a hollow sound when the arrow strikes back behind mid-ships. MUDRUNNER
I practice out to 40 yards, but probably wouldn't shoot at an animal past 30.My 30 yard groups are 3-4" so I'm pretty confident out to that range.Next year I might add another pin and practice out to 50,but from all of my stands my shots are between 10-25 yards. pointing_dogs_rule
25 - 30. You can practice all you want at 40 -60 yards (as I do), however, your practice target will never move and will always be at the same angle. There are too many variables when shooting a deer. I am not sure I can ever remember a deer standing perectly broadside at an exact know distance when I have taken a shot. I have unfortunately lost 2 deer and that is the worst feeling. good luck to all the dog
Texan_Til_I_Die
Last year I was shooting good out to 40 yards (killed my buck at 18), but I changed my setup during the summer and now I'm shooting like crap. Max range for me now is 25 yards. I'm going to change back after the season is over.

buckbuster11
20-25 yards is where I am comfortable...35 yards max. I hunt all woods, no fields, and usually I am in the real thick stuff so anything over 25 yards is out of the question anyway. Plus, I'm really not a big fan of wounding a deer, and my mentality has always been after 20-25 yards or so there are a lot of things that can go wrong on a shot, some in your control, some not, and I'm just not real comfortable shooting past that at a live target unless I have too. VermontHunter
I'm deadly on a target out to 50 yrds ... NOTICE I said target .. I found out the hard way a couple years back that Deer move and targets DON'T .. :( My MAX range would be 30 yrds,,
Guest adrenaline_junky
Well i don't normally shoot out past 30 yrds. But I do shoot a hundred arrows a day and all the way out to 60 and feel really comfortable. I shot a doe last year at 62 yrds, but the situation was absolutely perfect. No matter what distance it's at I will'nt take the shot unless I know it's 100% ethical and is going to be absolutely fatal.
GobblerBuster618
well my range is a lot shorter than many but i really do like 20 and under. I can shoot 25 yards but my recurve doesnt kick the arrows speed wise like compounds do. Plus I like the deer being 20 and under gets my heart pumpin everytime
