NS whitetail
Here in Nova Scotia, a new law has been put into place this year ------- this is what it says : 6. No person shall, while in a wildlife habitat, posess or use a product that contains or purports to contain any body part of the deer family, including urine, blood or other fluids. This regulation has been put in place in an effort to prevent the devastating Chronic Waste Disease, recently found to occur in western North America, being introduced to our deer population in Nova Scotia. What are your thoughts on this and is it legal or illegal where you hunt ?
VermontHunter
My thoughts are this .. HOGWASH !! How on GODS green earth can a synthetic scent/lure spread CWD ?? ... Scents and Lures are legal here in Vermont ,, ;) Tho I've never had much (any) luck using them .. Master_Chief
Wow. Now I guess you are clear for synthetic man-made stuff but not the real stuff. It is legal to use where I hunt but baiting is not. Interesting.

Interesting. synthetic stuff is alright and baiting here is legal right now, you can't drive a mile without seeing someone with carrots and apples for sale. I know some guys who will lug 1000's of pounds of carrots in the woods this fall ( and thats no lie ). I will use a few 50 pound bags, but that is only for my Leaf River set up to get some pics. I have never shot a deer over a bait pile, but I'm not against it

buckee
You made me get my regs out Lewis I don't see anything like that for BC. I think it's kinda crazy.
NS whitetail
I dont understand how they think lures will spread CWD and baiting wont I think, that in their minds --- they figure that natural scents may come from a deer that already has CWD and it will start to spread it here in N.S. CWD is not present here yet, so deer visting different bait piles don't have it to spread. Their thinking anyway
Ravin R10 man
That really dont make scents...the deer that are collected are strictly monitored for their health and blood is also tested... the wild deer that actually have CWD dont go through any tests
LifeNRA
The disease has been diagnosed in commercial game farms in several states and provinces where the products originate. There are no regulations on the imported scents, which hunters can purchase at WalMart and Canadian Tire. "I don't think there's going to be a huge uproar about it," he said, adding hunters have been ahead of the government on the CWD issue. Yeah right! Who is he kidding!!! http://www.hfxnews.ca/index.cfm?sid=25012&sc=

wildthing
Sounds like there may not be much scientific proof of the synthetic scents spreading CWD, and it may not make sense...but at least they are trying to be proactive in making sure the CWD doesn't affect the herds in that area. Better to be proactive than reactive...hide sight is always 20/20...hard to deal with after the fact.
Dogg6
Legal in WI. That sounds ridiculous.
Bob LeBlanc
It's illegal here, too, NS Whitetail... Lewis, The bucks are a sparrin', and stayin' close to the does...I'm off to Tatamagouche tonight...I got a feelin' tomorrow could be the day (if the weather holds out). LV2HNT
sounds like a stupid idea if you ask me....do you really think tinks, code blue etc. would put deer urine on the market that had CWD? I think not. By the way don't they use penned up deer anyway for the scents and wouldn't they be able to tell if the deer they were extracting from had CWD. Also how in the heck does a deer get CWD by smelling a scent? HMMMM????
Guest antlerhead
Can Use Scents Here But No Baiting.
