Guest WGABuck
I first got a box call, and I can, and do use it. I have not heard a turkey gobble, but I see tracks and I have seen feathers. So, I go out to buy a push button yelper to try. No gobbles that year. And, Last year I bought a set of mouth diaphrams. I cannot figure out how the mouth piece is set in the mouth, and how to make a sound with it. My deer calls are simple.. to inhale or exhale in them. But, I cannot figure out the mouth call. Please give me suggestions... ???

Strut10
Diaphragm calls go on top of your tongue with the open end of the "horseshoe" pointed forward. Press the call up againnst the roof of your mouth and bring air across it (from your belly......don't puff your cheeks). Regulate your air from your belly and by dropping your jaw ever so slightly. The decrease in air pressure caused by dropping your jaw will cause the high start of a yelp to break over into the second, lower note. I do my clucks by popping air out using my lips. Guest WGABuck
Calling Techniques Help - RE: Yes, I have a slate. To use it, I just scratch a semi-oval, or cluck with it by dipping a straight line briefly. So, I am set, except for these mouth calls. Again, I have not heard gobbles. Just seen evidence, and polt tracks. What shock call(s) really get results ? Will practice this year while deer season is going down. 13littleones
The only way to learn how to use a mouth call for the first time is to keep it in your mouth all day and every day till you get it right. Before you know it, they will be calling you Ben Lee.....

Guest WGABuck
I got a CD about this... it was in a package with a call I bought. This guy was sitting in a flocking site with over 30 birds. Birds landing all around him, he described. Whispering, he described what was happening, and the CD then had a version of the same audio without the man talking over it. My first thought was to study the audio, my second thought was to tape it in segments.
