Hoosierbuck
I like the H&R, no doubt the best gun for the $$$, but I would also look hard at the Savage bolt action, I think it's the model 210. Personally, mine is one you can't buy anymore, the Mossberg 512 bolt action 12 ga. Man, that thing shoots. BUT...if you have a muzzleloader, why not just use that during gun season?? Tecumseh
I have Mossberg 835 with a rifled barrel with a cantilever scope mount real tack driver with the remington buckhammer slugs.

johnf
I'm glad this came up because I was about to post a question. I have an 870 wingmaster 12ga. smooth bore and have never slug hunted for deer. Here in Jersey I wanted to be able to slug hunt during the firearms season and was contemplating buying a slug gun with rifled barrel etc. Is it ok to shoot a slug out of the gun I have? I don't know much about slugs at all because I have never had a need for them. Most of the time I hunted in Texas where I used a .243. Can I buy just a rifled barrel for my gun? I know I can buy a slug gun for cheap, but if I can just buy a barrel I would rather do that than deal with the headache of buying a gun in Jersey. If you have a IC choke, stick that in and get an adjustable turkey sight. I can shoot cheap riffled Winchester slugs and get a very respectable 2" pattern at 75 yards. I would feel confident at 100 yards with it. That's with a 28" barrel Benelli Nova pump.
David_218
You Can't go wrong with a Browning Gold slug gun. I own a 20 gauge Browning Gold and it is more accurate then some of my centerfire Deer rifles! However they are a bit "Pricey" but well worth it, IMO. billkay
I would consider sticking with your M/L. You'll find it has better accuracy and greater range than a shotgun. If it's a shotgun you got to have, then take a look at the H&R Ultra. It's only a single shot, but a tack driver. You likely won't need a second shot.
