Guest OHBUKMSTR Posted October 8, 2007 Report Share Posted October 8, 2007 That is preferd for a mossberg trophy 500 my brother just bought a combo and I was wondering if there was a manufacturer that they or any of you recomended for that Gun I have a 500A scoped and I shoot the breneke KO and I love them they have awsome knockdown power but I just didnt know if there was a specific type! Guest WGABuck Posted October 9, 2007 Report Share Posted October 9, 2007 Yah, I contacted Havelin Sales when I bought the 500AT to find out about the selct-O-choke on the end of it. I can't fire steel thru my 500, and I use two types of slugs on the smooth bore. Winchester superX, and Federal truBall VitalShok. Winchesters are 3'' and Federals are 2 & 3/4'' . I get more recoil with the longer ones. The company also has some barrels that will fit my gun, so I am going to try to get a slug barrel for it. Then, I can shoot Turkey loads in the spring. And, I can change the barrel out for slugs in the fall. There is a saddle mount for putting a scope onto a 500 that is now available. To mount a scope, some guns would have had to have the gun tapped, which was expensive. This add-on saddle mount is about $50 retail... cheaper than having a gunsmith tap screws to mount rails for scopes. I patterned my shot at a turkey shoot the first year I got the gun, and went to the range with slugs. I got various results, so with only the original sight on the barrel I have... ball sight, I need the rifle mount sight to shoot more accurately with slugs. Why I mention about mounting scopes. All these things vary on your sighting, and ability with the shotgun. I don't know it all, and I'm no expert. But, I have found out that with the first shot, I was able to hit a car license plate dead center with a heavy crosswind. After I cleaned the gun, changed to synthetic stock, while it looks much better, I will now go re-pattern, and re-set my aim. The gun is different now. Adding the saddle mount, getting a scope, and new barrel... I guess will have to re-set the sighting before every season. Should do that anyway.
