Guest mathersj
Hello, I have always hunted out of a ladder stand but want to convert to a hang on tree stand. I want to use climbing sticks that go up the tree, but how do people get the tree stand up the tree and actually hang it up there while being on the climbing sticks? I want to be as safe as possible while doing this. any help is greatly appreciated. thanks Joe
MUDRUNNER
You'll need a good safety harness.I put it on and wrap the other end around the tree about waist high like a linemans harness, with one clip on each side of the harness. Then you can lean back and have both hands free to put the stand up.I also use a rope to pull it up after you get to the top.Hope this helps.Welcome to the forums! Guest mathersj
ok, Thanks. That makes sense. I have tried the climbing stands before but I just don't feel safe climbing up a tree with them and the ladder stands you just cant get high enough. Thanks for the info. Guest bow_hunter101
Put the climbing steps together and place them where you want them on the tree. I always place mine to the left of my treestand so I can step on my stand's platform with my right foot. Stay attached to the tree with a safety harness and work your way up as you tighten the straps on the climbing sticks. Once the climbing sticks are in place you can pull the stand up with a rope or try using Hunter's Specialties Treestand Setter Hoist to pull up the stand (http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?id=0046668418045a&navCount=1&podId=0046668&parentId=cat20057&masterpathid=&navAction=jump&cmCat=MainCatcat20712-cat20057&catalogCode=QW&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat20057). I have set up dozens of treestands over the years like this.

razortec_hunter
idk of any but the way i do it is i put on my harness and my harness has special "climbing" loops that i put the cord through and the wrap it around the tree then i screw in all the steps i need and then i tie a rope to the tree stand and hoist it up in the tree. then when the tree stand is up there i take a bunjie cord and wrap it around the tree and the stand so it wont fall out while i climb back down to get the tools i need. then i climb down and get the ratchet starps and climb back up and then ratchet the tree stand to the tree (the bunjie cord is really help full cuz i dont have to hold the stand!! just make sure it's tight) and then ratchet the tree stand to the tree and your done!!! trim any limbs in the way and make sure u hung high enough in the tree. then i usually go down on the ground and walk where i think the deer would walk and see if i can see if the stand is obvious. (if ur good at hanging the stand wont be obvious )
murphy617
i find it to be easiest with the climber, but def do it the way you feel safest!!!
J.ALLEN.IA
I do about the same- use lineman's harness as I put up the rapid rails. Than I come down tie off a rope to the stand and pull it up. I put it up to the left since that's what side the chain attaches to. I usually end up around 20 ft up. Always tie off to the tree when putting up the stand because they don't always want to be friendly and easy while hanging them.

Hoyt03
are there any videos out showing step by step how this is done. Thanks Buy a loggy monarch hang-on and it will come with a dvd that shows you step by step how to hang climbing stiks, hangons, ladders, and everything else. It will also come with a safety harness and a LINEMANS belt which is a must. I always had issues hanging stand until I discovered the linemans belt, allows your hands to be free to work the stand
wtnhunt
Welcome to the forums. Safety is obviously the most important thing to remember here. A couple ways to get the stand up the tree, but probably the easiest would be to first get your stick ladder or steps up. Use a harness and a linemans belt while going up. I take a rope safety system up the tree with me while I am going up as I attach the ladder to the tree, once I get to the height I want, I go on and secure my rope and hook my carabiner to my prussic knot and check it out while I am still attached to the tree with the linesman belt. Then I use a different rope that I tie to the stand to pull it up. Cannot be to safe.
johnf
I usually climb the tree first with my climber and pull up my hang-on, strap it in and put up a safety rope with prussic knot on it. Then, if I remember it, I have a pulley and rope that I attach to my safety rope at the top and I pull the stick up in one piece. I put a ratchet strap at the bottom, top and every joint. Every time I go up I tighten the straps and check for "Squirrel damage".

Every time I go up I tighten the straps and check for "Squirrel damage". Good point. I always have at least 2 ratchet straps on my stands, sometimes 3. Treestands that only come with one strap or chain don't make me feel overly safe. It's worth putting another ratchet strap on. You can never be to safe.
