horst
Theres a property outside town here that hasnt been deer hunted in years, its an awesome place, around 80 acres or a little more in CRP behind the house, theres food plots and the family feeds the deer in the yard year round as they enjoy watching them.Unfortunately this means no deer hunting on the place. This spring they needed the house shingled and got us to do it.The conversation turned to the deer that come up in the yard and the lady mentioned she had been trying to take pics with a regular camera through the window to send to friends but had no luck.I mentioned I had a game camera and would set it up if they liked and get them some close up pics of the deer.About a month ago she called me and Id totally forgotten the conversation, lat week i started taking cams out and setting up on thier feed pile. The results were just nuts, in 3 days i had a couple hundred pictures and there were as many bucks showing up as does in them. The place is just jammed with deer. They told me theres a huge old 14 point buck theyve been seeing at night occasionaly, the first night the cam was out the lady called right at dark and was pretty excited, the 14 pointer was in the yard and right in front of the camera, for some reason the cam didnt work properly, think the yard light was messing with the flash sensor:eek: Still got some nice bucks on film and when i was pulling a cam the other day the ladys husband showed up, he enjoyed my pics but didnt realize the nuber of deer they were actually giving refuge to.We started visiting and he said he has way to many deer in the property, I mentioned to him Id really like to hunt back there if they ever decided to let anyone in.Apparently a doctors actually got the ground leased for pheasant hunting and he had already told him he could kill one deer out of there during early muzzleloader, but then to my suprise he told me i could hunt it all I wanted after the docs done. One of the bucks that I got on film, theres another larger 10 point but I dont have the pics in my computer yet. I thought about it for awhile and realized due to his cancer dad hadnt been out hunting in 2 years and hes never killed a record book buck, this property could be the best possibility of that in the area and theres several running it every day.The next time I was out there I told him about dads trouble and asked if it would be ok if instead of me hunting it I set up a ground blind and let took dad out to shoot a deer instead. He thought that was a great idea and said if dad killed a good buck out there I could always take any of the does I wanted to afterwards, sounded fair to me:D
