to use for tracking deer. I want a smaller spotlight with a seperate battery pack that will last a couple hours before the battery dies. I was thinking something like the firemen use on their helmets but a handheld version. Does anybody use something like this or know of someone who has one? If so which brand, and any bad ones out there?

Have a handheld light from craftsman that came in a drill combo. Uses the 19.2 volt battery packs, which I have a couple of and keep those charged up this time of the year. It last pretty well and is not too big and bulky.
I'm really looking for a separate battery pack that you wear on your belt or a special vest. Then you have the cord that plugs into the battery so all you are carrying is a small spotlight. Maybe I should have posted this in varmint hunting?

I just bought one on sale at Canadian Tire. 10 million candlepower, bought it for the same reason, or for coming in from the duckblind or off a lake fishing late at night. It's charging right now, but when it's fully charged I can take some pics how bright it is. Got it for $29.99, regular is $59.99, if you're interested in one I could ship one down for you. :D

Here she is.

Be sure to check your state and provincial regulations as to the candlepower you are allowed to use.;)

Here in good'ol Nova Scotia, if you enter the woods during the hunting season with a 10 million candlepower light, you are guilty of jacking...if they find you with a gun or not !!

Incidentally, a Coleman lantern is the BEST tracking light...not as portable as a headlamp, mind you...but it casts a non-shadowed light. IMHO.

i use a competative coon light. It has a 17 volt battery pack that you have on your belt. It's head lamp come with a hat for easy use. They are built locally designed for coon tracking but great for blood trailing.

Nate

That's what I'm looking for but, I want a handheld version!

Been using one for years and I think they are great but, I think a decent spotlight works even better. A buddy of mine had a strong flashlight, and a few years back we were tracking a deer through a cornfield. He took that light and pointed it down the corn row, I'lll bet you could see blood on the cornstalks for 20 yards!! Not only that, something about hovering over a hot lantern when it's warm out seems to bother me! ;)

I have an old model 5 D cell MAG light that is super bright with new batteries. I also use cordless spotlights, but they never last too long. They work well for finding sparce blood. They don't make the 5 D cell anymore, only the 4 or 6. It also works great for wrapping your drag rope around for 2 man dragging Does out to the atv. It may seem big at first, but it sure works nice. My 5 D cell is 14 or 15 yrs old. I love it.:)
