Steven
Ok, this little experiment has been cute, but it's time to get back to Nebraska football. This is Tom Osborne and Bob Devaney. Nebraska is 350 ypg rushing, not some Arizona State reject trying to throw 40 times. It's a top 10 all-time program, not the team you schedule for your homecoming. It's 3 National Titles in 4 years and an annual BCS bowl, not sitting at home watching the bowls on TV. It's at least 9 wins a year from 1969-2001, not 6 wins, IF they're lucky. It's a crushing defense not giving up 86 points in 2 weeks to (gasp) Mizzou and Ok State. In other words, It's a dynasty. It's not funny anymore. Seriously. Why, oh why, did they hire a coach not even good enough to coach the Raiders when they had Turner Gill already on their sidelines. For that matter, why did stupid Frank Solich get the job over Gill after Osborne retired? Now, they have leaders like Grant Wistrom retired from the NFL, they have Jason Peter & Tommie Frazier not involved with the program. They have all these guys who know Nebraska football and winning and they need to be in Lincoln right now. Now, they're sitting with 3 losses on their record and have shown me nothing to indicate they can win another game this year. PATHETIC! Get that bum out of the Crimson and Cream and get a Nebraska guy in there next season. Some say the running game doesn't work anymore and you have to throw the ball. Well, that's what they said in the 95 Fiesta Bowl when they called Osborne a dinosaur who couldn't match up with Spurrier, we saw how that turned out- 62-24 Nebraska. They said in 97, Manning was going to expose Nebraska's Defense in the Oranga Bowl- 42-17 Nebraska. Simply stated, a strong clock-eating run game and a solid defense neutralizes any opponent. Now, they have neither. I still love the Huskers and will until I'm 6 feet under, but come on. Act like Nebraska for crying out loud. Mediocrity is unacceptable in Lincoln. If you want a team that's good once a decade, go to Kansas. [\rant]
dogdoc
might have something to do with a buy out clause of over 2 million--however I do believe both him and the AD will be gone after this season. How 'bout those Cowboys!!!!!!!
Dukey
Yeah it is time for the Callahan/Pederson Era to END!!!
muggs
Question. I'm not really up to speed on Cornhusker football, but I was always under the impression that the wishbone/ option offense wasn't working anymore and Nebraska fans felt the evolution of the game passed that style of play by so they felt they didn't to update the offense- thus by bringing in Callahan. Is that not true? I know that's why South Carolina fired Lou Holtz and got rid of his updated system in favor of Spurrier and his high tech passing game. Anyway, I think recruiting and lack of talent is more the problem, but again, that's an outside opinion.
Dukey
We have talent and we have been getting good recruiting classes. The talent is there but the coaches are definately not getting the best out of the athletes we have. True we are not up to par with the USCs and LSUs but we should not be dropping games by 30+ points, let alone at home during homecoming. This was a team that went 9-5 last year with marginal losses to Texas and Auburn that could have went either way. We returned our Runningbacks, wide recievers, Defensive backfield and linebackers, along with an improved O-line and we are getting blown out in games, not even competing. I think the coaching staff can book the same bus tickets as Pederson. Sorry I am just a disappointed huskers fan.
TxBowHunter
Yeah, I have noticed that nebraska is not playing the same ball they are used to. They need some renovation.
Steven
Question. Anyway, I think recruiting and lack of talent is more the problem, but again, that's an outside opinion. The talent isn't what it was mid 90's, but it's there enough to not be blown out by lesser opponents. They're schizophrenic it seems. To put up a respectable fight with USC then to be blown out by Mizzou and Ok State? What's that about? The main lack of talent is on the sidelines. As far as being outdated, lets not forget they played (undeservedly so) for the 2001 National Title and 2 years later they tore the whole thing apart when they should have just gotten rid of Solich and promoted Gill to the head honcho. Sure, the 2001 season was essentially the Eric Crouch show, but he took the whole team with him. The system was still working. Between 1993 and 2001 they played in 5 National Title games and won 3, the whole landscape of football doesn't change so fast that a program like that just falls by the wayside all of the sudden. Nebraska fans never really felt the game had passed them by, the A.D. decided they needed to change because it worked in Oklahoma and the fans being some of the most loyal in the country gave him the benefit of the doubt. One problem, Calahan isn't Bob Stoops. Not even close.
craig mack
The bad thing for you guys is, they just gave Beau Bridges, I mean Bill Callahan a new extension. Hopefully Lloyd Carr will be available at the end of the season for you guys.
Steven
Looks like they dumped the AD Pederson and brought in Tom Osborne interim. Now if they will just boot Calahan and bring in Gill (or better yet convince Osborne to go back to the sidelines) things will be back in the right direction. Maybe, but not likely, having Osborne looking over his shoulder will kick Calahan in the butt and get things rolling.
Tominator
Give me the athletes, and I will beat you with the veer, 'bone, power I, true I, run and shoot, spread, pro, whatever. Defense and athletes win ball games.
Guest So.Ill-Kev
Iam not trying to make any one mad but The only great decission that Dirk Koetter made was to let Sam Kellar go to Nebraska. Look at ASU"s record. Thanks Nebraska for taking him.
