Guest habs24
I hunt 50 acres parcel of land. 3 sides are hay fields, the middle is 25 acre spruce plantation about 20 years old. the trees are 18 feet tall and very thick cover in this area. the one side that is not a field is mixed forest (not my hunting land). i've hunted this land for ten years, i see tons more deer in the p.m. how do i set up for a morning hunt? the plantation is almost unhuntable as it is so thick hard to penetrate to hunt .ideas please!!! good luck everyone this year
Brad6639
Well what I have found is unless you have a very easy access to a stand for a morning hunt, they often times dont pay off (im talkign about walking in when its still dark). In the early season I seldom ever hunt the mornings unless its a spot where I can literallly walk in as quiet as a mouse and be on a travel corrider between feeding and a bedding area. Otherwise you spook more deer then you will see in the mornings hunt. I would avoid walking through the fields at all costs, and woudlnt go in the thick stuff unless you have a real easy trail to sneak in on without brush rubbing up against you. Now during the rut, Ill go in as its just breaking light and then get in the stand, that way you dont make a tons of noise getting in because you can see without the aid of a flashlight that shows you whats 10 feet in front of you. During the rut you want to sit all day if you can, so im willing to give up hunting the first few minutes so I can sneak in real easy and maybe set up a decoy and put up some scent. Anything like that helps, and its easier to get things right when you can see what you are doing and what your about to step on, and that way you can see where to put the scent so it lines up with a shooting lane. This is what I do, and it has paid off very well for me over the years.

wtnhunt
Welcome to the forums. Sometimes it may be best to find a different place to hunt in the mornings if that is an option. Here for our gun seasons I like to back off of our back field. Will usually hunt the mornings in a ladder stand that is just this side of a little rise in the hill. The ladder stand has canvas draped down makes for more easily slipping in undetected by deer feeding in the field.
buckee
Welcome to the Realtree Forums I've always found that morning hunts are most successful, if you hunt closer to the bedding area, but not so close as you start changing the bedding habits. Adjam5
Welcome to the forums. I have always has better success in the am bow hunting, than in the evenings. In situations where it is very hard to get to a pm stand. I read a story of a hunter that ran to his stand full speed, until he got there. Like a animal sprinting away from something. You have to be in shape, or you'll be sucking wind and dripping before you can aim at anything. Its a idea... Good Luck.
wtnhunt
I read a story of a hunter that ran to his stand full speed, until he got there. Like a animal sprinting away from something. Have done that here in the gun season in the afternoons a few times before, and had success with doing it, not necessarily sprinting, but stomping around in the leaves and running for short spurts. One time in particular, stopped a few times along the way and grunted between short spurts of running. Within less than 5 minutes had a buck come out at full attention looking. Have done that going in late in the morning before too and also had the same type results.
