Guest isiaha
You tracked it for an hour with a good blood trail. You can't see because it's dark so you go home and wait until morning to look for it.After looking for a few hours you find it. It was a nice 8 point. The coyotes ate most of the rear and opened the belly up. Do you make the effort to take the deer home or leave it. For me I would leave it because you just don't know if the coyotes have rabies.
wtnhunt
Been there done that, unfortunately in my situation what was left after the coyotes had their feast was pretty nasty, and really was not worth trying to salvage. Really guess it would depend on when they found it and on how much damage there was or if it looked like there might be anything salvageable, but if you have question it is not worth taking any chances. Get your cape, and antlers and leave the carcass, maybe even hunt over it. From here on if I think I have a dead deer, I will not wait until morning. If you do not recover your deer the same night here, chances are you will have yotes on your kill, amazing just how fast they find them. Dawg
Get your cape, and antlers and leave the carcass. Exactly what I was thinking.
Guest bow_hunter101
Take the antlers, leave the deer, kill the 'yotes!!!
GobblerBuster618
im not sure. if that were to happen to me id tag the deer. and probably take the loss on the meat. that was the buck i chose to kill and that was the outcome that happened. just my opinion tho. my dads buddy shot one and that situation with the yotes arose and he called the game warden to let him keep the antlers and still use his buck tag for another deer
Hoosierbuck
Oh yeah, you HAVE to tag that deer. I don't know about keeping the meat, though. That sucks. I guess it depends on whether or not there are significant portions that are not exposed, like backstraps or neck roast or front shoulder. I'd sure salvage what I could, but I feed it to my kids, so I can't take chances, either. HB
Tetro
Take the antlers, leave the deer, kill the 'yotes!!! Same here, its a 50/50 chance of getting to it before the yotes or the wolves after one evening.
toddyboman
I'm pretty sure in MO you have to tag the horns if you want to keep them....Otherwise you are not suppose to take the horns. But I would leave the meat. Sad it happened but I'm not messing with the meat those nasty yotes messed with. There lots of deer around to shoot for more meat.
