jason_thacker
i have been looking to get into coyote hunting and was wandering what would be the best way to hunt one (and im not allowed to use calls) any tips and would my 20 gauge do the job? Guest bow_hunter101
Not being able to use calls is a big disadvantage, but if baiting is legal I'd try using Wildgame Innovation's new Predator Pile (http://www.wildgameinnovations.com/products/predator-pile.html). And a 20 gauge with slugs is plenty for a coyote, just not a very far range. I'd use a rifle if you have one, but if not don't let that keep you from getting out there and hunting! Hardwood_HD
i,ve never heard of the predator pile before, i think baiting would be about the only chance if you cant use calls.. i cant think of any other way to hunt them
Guest bow_hunter101
If baiting happens to be illegal you could always do a little scouting. Find a spot where they're crossing under a fence or out of a thicket. The coyote I shot last year was 60 yards from a spot where they crossed a logging road and barbwire fence. I was deer hunting and she came running through.
jason_thacker
my rulebook doesnt say anything about baiting being illegal so i might have to give it a try
wtnhunt
Welcome to the forums Jason. Where are you at and is it just electronic calls that are not allowed or no calls at all? The bait pile thing looks interesting, but at $15 for a 1 lb bag, I dont know.

That's kinda what I thought when I saw it at my local huntin store, but I will say, it smelled pretty dank and just from picking up the bag my hands smelled like dead animal for the rest of the day. So whatever they have in there, it's definately potent!

proudowner
Jason..double check your regulations to make sure that your not allowed to use ANY calls. Usually the mean you cant use electronic calls. What state do you live in that you cant use a call for coyotes?? That would be like not being allowed to use a grunt or rattling for deer. arrow32
Proud you nut if you would have read his last post you would have saw that he can use calls. LOL Anyway Primos has some nice calls in the Randy Anderson series. I have one that a member here on the forums made for me and then a few others I have picked up from people. Rabbit distress, whimpering howling things of that such is what I use this time of the year.
